I am lucky enough to live in the Caribbean and play golf year-round.  That also means that it is always warm and relatively humid year-round.  My home course is a walking course and I recently analyzed my scores and discovered that my "blow-up" holes and mental errors were occuring later in the round when I would start to lose energy and focus.  I found this article and the tips on nutrition and hydration are actually helping my game. Hope it helps in your game as well-

Water/hydration is a must and first most.... The 1st Tee bars are pretty good... Good carbs and not hot dogs or snickers... Nuts nd beef jerky do it for me! Water with Huun tablets work wonders!

  3. I mentioned it in another thread, but...I have a stash of goodies in my Staff bag. I also make sure that I either have plenty of Gatorade or water with me.

I noticed that I would run out of gas if I didn't drink enough water or have some beef jerky.  Staying hydrated makes all the difference in the world and can minimize the blow up holes.

Thanks Thomas for the the link, i have always struggled with fatigue on the course, mainly because i'm sometimes so focus and forget to eat or really drink anything, thus my game suffers. I now pack snacks and fruit and plenty of Coconut water for each round and i feel great during the round...

Beer - my game really suffers if we run out of beer LOL. Water is probably offers the best hydration we can use, but a light snack, 1/2 PBJ, a banana really help keeping me going late in the round. Just nothing "heavy". Beer only after the round.

Started to drink more water these days, no more Diet Cokes and hot dogs during the round. Two
PBJ sandwiches is just right for me. Fruits are always a good idea.

One week away from the Dakota Open.  I feel I have my nutritional "game" covered.  About an hour before the round, I am going to "enjoy" some bacon and eggs with hash browns and toast.  That should give me not only a nutritional advantage, but also a positive mental advantage.  I will bring along a sandwich in case I get hungry (even tho a lunch will be served), also a container of mixed nuts for munching on while waiting to hit, and of course a liter container of juice/green tea.  Because it is a competition, I am also bringing a couple of "single serve" bottles of Chardonnay ... in case of nerves :)

I bought a sleeve of new Pro V1's today that I will carry with me all week while I practice, that way they should be acclimated for next Saturday and Sunday.

I try to keep myself fed and watered while golfing, I find it helps a lot!

I won my semi-final match yesterday 4 & 3! I had fruit and liquids after warming up, 2 muesli bars and liquids  during the first 6, half a turkey sandwich in the middle 6, and finished it off with mixed nuts and liquids on the last 6. 2 liters of water mixed with Gatorade and my mind stayed focused. My feet were pretty darn tired though. Apart from the nutrition during the round, I would have to say my 913Hd and my 2 TVD SM4 wedges and SC Newport 2 behaved very well yesterday.

Thanks for sharing Thomas.  Staying hydrated and fueled is so important.  On a side note-  If you ever need a house guest and playing partner in February let me know.

If you want a golf vacation in Curacao, just let me know!  We have a small apartment that is available for friends/guests and I'll be happy to play the three courses on island with you!

Pushing towards 70 yrs old very quickly, I have alot of the normal ailments that follow people of my age, I also have heart problems and a touch of COPD. This precludes me from walking a golf course. I use a cart, but I will walk from shot to shot on a level fairway while my cart partner drives. I can still play 36 holes without wilting, and even though I live in a 4 season climate I play pretty much year round. Just so you don't think I am some kind of macho guy, I have a cart cover and a heater for use when it gets cold. During the late fall I walk on a treadmill and lift light weights. I will also do this on days I don't play in the summer. My wife sees to it that I eat as healthy with in reason, I do watch my colesterol, as well as my calorie intake as much as I can. I spent alot of years kidding myself that I was in great shape and I was in ptetty good shape except for my arteries as I spent 20+ years as a high school and small college sports official, but too many years of cigs and fast food took their toll. Now I'm taking better care of myself, so if you are young or just younger than me, I hope you will think twice about what you put into your body, and have fun, play hard and here's to a hole-in-one.

Living along the coast of SC where high temperature and humidity, May thru September can take a toil on this old body, I stay hydrated. Either Gatorade or Powerade, no calories and water, when riding a cart. Wish I could walk but according to my doctor's, enjoy golf and ride. At my age, they say with all my ailments, lucky to be playing.

For me, it's all about hydration. This time of year, it gets very warm at my home course (Sacramento valley) so, it's a must to get an early tee time and bring enough hydration aids as possible. Pre-pandemic, I took for granted the many scattered water jugs at my home course and I never needed to carry water with my bag (I like to walk and carry). Post pandemic, all those water jugs were removed and noticed the extra weight of carrying water. My gut tells me the idea of water fountains and water jugs are a thing of the past so I'll need to get accustomed to the extra weight in my bag.
