I have played golf without a glove for the past 20 or so years and am a 4 handicap, I used to use tour velvet cord grips but now use regular tour velvet, in warm weather my hands feel like they might slip so I am thinking about wearing a golf glove again. I wonder what kind of adjustment period I may experience has anyone recently gone back to wearing a glove and can offer some input or should I just forget the change. Thanks David

Growing up in Rochester, NY I never used a glove from when I began playing the game at age 6 until I moved to MD at age 22.  Given the humid conditions here, I often found myself concerned about the club slipping so I tried a few gloves.  I must say, the gloves today are so superior that you won't even notice a difference in your game and you will instantly adjust.  I still play without one for "feel" shots but have grown to prefer wearing a glove.  I have been wearing the Titleist Perma Soft for as long as they made it but recently have become a big fan of the Foot Joy Pure Touch.

I played for a little bit without a glove (between 2007-2009) and got used to it but developed calluses on my palms and my right index finger.   I've been playing with one since then.

A couple weeks ago I was wondering how come I was slicing my driver and 5 wood and then realized that I left my glove at the counter.  I seemed to be OK with hybrids, short irons and wedges and also noticed I putted better.  I went to the driving range and hit the driver and 5 wood with the glove on and was hitting the ball just about dead straight.

I just switched back to a glove after 2 years without and 30 plus with. The best part of using a glove is the grip when it is hot and humid it does not slip, the only caution I advise is to not put with your glove on. You have better fell with it off and putting has a lot to do with feel

I have three Titleist players glove that I don't use that much. Only 5% of the time. The other 95%, my bear hands. I use Golf Pride VDR grips.

Good question David. First, the glove is going to make the grip feel thicker and may throw off your timing a bit as the hands may slow down. Coming from a humid environment (Houston, Texas), slippage is something that I was forced to conquer. The glove was the answer, but also the type of grip. I tried the cord grips, tour velvet, etc and settled years ago on the Tour Wrap. It's sticky, recovers its "tack" with the wipe of a towel and doesn't destroy the glove in 5 swings. Also, the Tour Wrap has a soft feel that cushions the impact on hard ground (it's called hard pan for a reason). I hope that helps y'all.

You're welcome David. I also use, on the hottest days, a product called Grrrip plus lotion. It's an alcohol based gel with silica flour in it. You put  a small glob on your palm and rub your hands all over each other to spread it out. It dries quickly to a white film that is dry and beads sweat like was on a car. It might be worth a try for you.

I always play with a glove on woods and irons but take off for short wedge shots, bunker, putting.  I want to "feel" more.

That said I the FootJoy StaSof is my go to glove.  I've tried on the Titleist ones but FJ is #1 in Gloves for a reason.  :-)

  14. Try a footjoy pure touch glove!!   Very thin and soft with some extra grip. They are amazing.

I started out not using a glove but started using a glove for better grip. Here in the South the majority of the golf season is hot and humid. I do not use a clove for putting and when very close to the green in certain situations using a wedge all the way down to a 7 iron using a putting grip. What I hate is that gloves do not last long in hot humid weather and it's just another expense to keep up with.
