My finger/hand size is between std and midsize.  Any recommendations between going to a midsize or using extra wraps with a regular grip?  I'm LH and it is most noticible on my RH where I dig into my palm.

    Don, a couple thoughts...

First, You should experiment with one club (normally a 8 iron) and buld up your grip 3 wraps...try it out on the range....then build it up to 4 wraps..try it out on the range...you do not sound like you need larger but you could also try 5 wraps (or you could have three irons all regripped - maybe your 9, 8 and 7 irons and go with the one you feel fits best).  I have large hands and depending on the size of the butt of your shaft (some butt dimensions are larger so you need to be aware of this) however I use 5 wraps which is big.  Just some thoughts...have fun in the process!

Good question, Don. You may have to try a few grips out to get what you really want and feels correct, to you. By that, I mean you should seek a grip that creates no gaps between the grip and your hand. For some, it's not only the grip size, it may require extra tape down the length of the shaft. Play with it, find what works best for you and note it. For example, a friend of mine builds up the shaft with masking tape to provide the same diameter down the grip.

Another friend of mine used to be the Inside Tour Rep. for the Hogan Company and he was responsible for putting together the sets for Mr. Hogan to test out new club designs. For example, he'd have to sort through 100's of shafts to get the right flex for each club. More importantly, the grip specifications required the base layer of tape and extra strips of tape of specific length to be applied at specific distances from the butt of the grip. The idea being Mr. Hogan wanted no gaps between the grip and his hands and, if you didn't get it right, Mr. Hogan could tell where you added too much tape or not enough. My friend was assembling a set and was interrupted by a phone call and lost count of how many wraps he had already made on the 6 iron. When he took the clubs to Mr. Hogan's office, Mr. Hogan gripped each club then, walked back around his desk, produced a piece of chalk and marked the 6 iron where more tape needed to be added.

I failed to add, Mr. Hogan marked the exact spot on the grip where my friend had lost count of the wraps. What amazing "feel" he had.

LOL - Just more reason why I'll never catch Mr. Hogan.  This is all useful information.  A local box store has been useless in helping me on grip size.  This is far more information than asking questions of what I would refer to as order takers.  I'll check wiith my local AFC to work with me on regripping.

    Thanks.
