For those of us who live in the north it is a sad time of the year. Late October, early November is the end of golf season. This means the clubs go into the corner for 5 months or so. Just wanted to express my feelings on what it's like for those whose game goes into hibernation. I hope those who are lucky enough to live in areas that don't lose anytime to cold weather take advantage of it and cheers to low scores!

why? bundle up and play on until the snow falls. hoping for no snow this year! I'll play all winter long as long as the white stuff stays away.

with the cold winds and hard greens, it lets me work on different parts on my game.

I'm with you.  As long as there is no snow, ground not frozen and the course is open, I'll play.

I'm with you, Scott A, I'll play as long as I can in northern Mass & southern NH, but the course owner will shut it down when all there is left is the full membership players, so no revenue. Can't really blame her, I suppose...

Living here in Texas, this is the time of year that I get the most golf in.  I don't play much in the summer heat, but I sure love the fall, winter and spring.

Yep - Texas Summers can be brutal, but Fall, Winter and Spring make up for it.

I know exactly what your talking about! I lived in Massachusetts all of my life and moved to Florida this past summer. I'm excited that my golf clubs don't have to go into the basement anymore! Plus I don't need to shovel the driveway!

I've got buddies in Florida that brag about being able to play in January/Feb but refuse to golf in summer because it is toooooooo hot/humid. Go figure.

Yeah Kevin, where I'm at in Ohio there is at most another week but there's rain in the forecast for the next few days and the leaves are bad.  So I gave my equipment a bath and put them to bed this afternoon.  Hopefully about February or March I'll head down to Alabama or Mississippi for a week.  Guess my first priority is politicking the wife with my Christmas list of new toys for next year.

Well, 20 days to the official end of the golf season (11/15) in the land of the frozen tundra.  May get lucky, but once the greens and tees freeze solid, all courses close other than the 3 heated driving ranges until April 1 unless the aforementioned greens start to grow in March.

The clubs don't go into hibernation, they just get bored waiting for the occasional business trip to Alabama, New Mexico, Texas, or South Carolina. I almost feel on a first name basis with Mr. RTJ, Sr.  Or some special time, like a vacation toSan Diego in December.

Okay, this is really sad when avid golfers start making reference to a chick flick from the 80's.

Hopefully, the season is not over yet. I don't mind temperatures around freezing depending on how much wind there is.

I don't know where home is for you Kevin, but here on the Connecticut shore, I've been lucky enough to play every month since March 2012.  Even when much of our state was covered in snow, 45 minutes to the east, in Rhode Island, a few courses were open.  Sure, there were some cold rounds, but an extra layer, some FJ winter gloves and the love of the game kept me pretty warm.

For those winters where snow wins out, it is a drag.  I hope you have an early spring!

When the snow falls, it's time to find simulator close by and wait for the melt. Practice putting and chipping in the basement.

I played one day last year in 9 degrees and heavy winds. One of the more memorable rounds I got in last year. There’s nothing like getting one in when the itch is bad. Big props for the FJ winter gloves. Those baby’s keep the hands from cracking. Great for the wet stuff too.

Mike, you guys need to come up for something for the shoes! Hands and feet are the only winter issues.

Game on!  I'll play until the snow flies.  The GHIN season might be over, but there's a couple of good months left.  There's also some heated driving ranges near by, so my clubs don't hibernate.
I'm also going to get into a TPI program this winter so I don't lose my game.

No need to put the clubs away...just take a trip or two south during the cold months. Another option is Bermuda, it is under 2 hours from most east coast airports and the golf is great!

I am also tired of going into hibernation. My courses have been closed for a month now. However uncle same is going to move me south after 8 years of living in the frozen north. All of my choices are diverse and have 12 month golf seasons. So I will be happy no matter what location I get. I would prefer Tampa bay over Seattle but either way I will be playing golf year around.

Well here in the cleve area it's been absolutely fantastic up to this weekend... Ended up playing anyway under rain, wind and 40 degrees... it wasn't too pleasant but still made it through!

I'll be out playing until the snow falls, especially since I missed pretty much the whole season due to a back injury (out from June 10th till September 29th)...

Sounds Like you need to find yourself an indoor hitting area. I have been using one in the offseason for a couple years. Its not perfect but if they have a launch monitor it can be a very effective way to not lose touch with your swing

I'm with Alex F on this one.  Most of my clubs get used at the indoor range down the road at the Turning Stone Casino from November to March. Unless we can catch a break and grab a few days in a row without rain/snow here in way upstate NY I believe my last full 18 hole round was completed last week while on vacation in VA Beach. Although I have played an occassional quick 9 the morning of Thanksgiving in the past we will definitely need some warmer temps and less rain to make that happen this year.  It's always a sad time of the year but it does usually coincide with the beginning of Whitetail Hunting Season up here so I can at least keep myself busy with something!

    Kevin,

Yes, we knew this day was coming, of course it doesn't make it any easier.  I live in NE SD and we got a light ground cover of snow this morning, it is gone now, but definitely a reminder the season is winding down.  I also got that dreaded email today from my home course that they are closing at the end of the day tomorrow, it is a municipal course, so we will be allowed to play for a couple-three weeks before it is too harsh for the course to handle.

On the bright side, I have my new grips ready to install and am playing around with a couple of other ideas for this "winter off"

I am already looking forward to next season.  Titleist has been very consistent for me this past year (as always) and I have tried a few things that have helped me to be more consistent.

At least we can still watch the tour and talk about the game here.

This brings up a good point, for those of you that can't live down south. How do you keep yours swing going over the winter? I guess you can hit balls off of a mat and into a net in the garage or swing a heavy club, like the Momentus. Perhaps some of y'all have a simulator, like Optishot. I'm curious.

Gives me an opportunity to get to gym more and work on my core/legs.  Build up the base of my swing, so that I have a solid foundation to play off of.  Also helps me keep my flexibility and strength up.  Granted I'm in Kentucky, and we only lose 2-3 months of golf for the weather.

It's a crap shoot in Illinois. Played a very nice round on Sunday(10/27) It was 39 degrees but very sunny and little wind-which is the key

I will play as long as possible. We played a round on December 8th last year, then snow came. I'll stop when we get temp greens out. Then I may go out on nice days and play but I usually just drive a couple, and maybe hit approaches it depends on the midwest weather.

This year I played several times because I had been working indoors on hitting a draw off the tee(curing my slice) and it's difficult to judge hitting a ball 40-50 feet. So I would hit at least 5 tee shots, and then go pick up and move to the next hole. More like a glorified range session but since no outdoor ranges were open, it worked. Plus just the idea of playing golf was therapeutic.

Played in 50 degrees(8 celisius) in Kitchener, Ontario today on my home course. The weather is supposed to stay okay for the next few days, but I won't be playing my home course. It was really wet today. There are some other courses around that are offering fall rates for approx. $20, and they are built on sand bases, which won't be nearly as wet.

freddy - and there lies my biggest issue in improving.  i don't have access to an indoor hitting area anymore, so unfortunately, the swing will need some work come spring.  but on the plus side, you forget the bad habits just as quickly as the good ones.  so sometimes it's nice to start fresh.

I practice my chipping in the hallway (when my wife's not around.)  This year I am setting up a net in the garage.  I plan to hit BirdieBalls into it just to stay loose.

I've been in the Army for 20 years now; and the best golfing time has been when I was stationed in Georgia and now in Texas.  While I'm considering retirement in the next 5 years or so, my retirement location will be golf dependent.  Although my time in Missouri still aloud me to play year round, I still enjoy the warmer playing weather.

Clubs are not going into the corner this year! Keep on playing.

Love the snow shot on the golf course Richard.  Currently I live in Texas where the season lasts all year round.  However, I grew up in Indiana where the weather is a little more harsh.  As long as the course was open and there was no sleet or freezing rain, we would play.  Once you are properly dressed, it was tolerable (I was also 15 years younger so that may have factored into the decision as well).  It also gave us can excuse to plan several golf trips over the winter months to more hospitable climates.  Time to take the game on the road with your buddies!

For the first time this winter here in OH I think I am gonna keep at it, there are a few heated ranges around and I just can't see letting all this years hard work go down the drain because I am afraid of a little white stuff.

Oh i know the feeling from previously living outside the Chicagoland area and it can be totally depressing time of year for avid golfers like us. Fortunately for me I live in Houston and can play year-round.

But I just wanted to comment on the cold weather conditions. I work for an apparel distribution company that makes heated apparel. I don't usually solicit our products on forums like this but if it something that will allow you an extra month or 2 of golf it might be a product you could benefit from. Check out www.mobilewarminggear.com as there is an entire golf related line. Basically there is a small lithium battery pack that powers the heating elements inside the jacket. I use and love mine (not very often of course, lol).

I too, live in the Northeast, so it is getting to that time where I try my best to get in those last few meaningful rounds! I played 18 holes on Wed. Oct 23rd in 40 degree weather with the wind blowing and the sleet/freezing precip coming down from time to time and still played well enough to shoot 74. Unfortunately, I had to miss the best opportunities to join in on all the fun with the Team Titleist Events held in Florida and California. I am driving to Florida to visit my daughter on Dec. 13th then on to my buddy's in Sarasota. I am flying out to San Diego to visit my son who is stationed at Camp Pendleton in the Marine Corp. I am flying on to Denver, CO to visit my youngest daughter then back to Florida to golf my brains out with my buddy before turning my sights on Myrtle Beach, SC on my way back north. I will stop to visit another buddy near Fort Bragg, NC to play a little golf with him too. What a way to spend the long, cold NY winter, ha!

the last couple winters in PA haven't been that bad, but from what i'm hearing, this year will be different.  i'll play in cold and even if there is a little snow on the ground.  but if we get a lot, i'm out of luck.

Here in KY we play all year! One day it's 50 and sunny the next it's 30 and snow! Just requires some extra layers of Footjoys and now a yellow ball. My home course with it's Bermuda going dormant makes it hard to see white ball on "white grass" . Unfortunately it's easier to find in the rough and that's where we play from a lot!!!  Also can get to range and hit from heated stalls. No crazy about hitting off mats but at least can still work on game and swing a club!!! Hit 'em straight!!!!

Because of an unexpected 12 inches of snow mid-April, and another 12 inches at the end of April, the Golf season didn't start until May this year.  Then we got almost 3 inches of snow Monday night Tuesday morning ... so I wasn't sure if I could do it, but ... I played my 150th round today (149 on my home course), looks like I can get 2 more in Sunday and Monday which means I will be able to play over 150 on my home course again this season.

Short term forecast after Monday isn't great, but you never know :)

I am hoping for a couple more rounds here in NE, but we'll see.  The good days seem to come when I can't get out of the office!  The last few winters, I've really focused on working out more.  TPI offers great golf workouts so you can hit it hard in the spring.  Also, putt, chip in the basement, rent out a simulator if possible.  I'll come in after scooping, watch a tournament, and just rehearse my grip, stance, preshot routine.  If possible, set up a mirror and check out your takeaway and posture.  I guess, just try to view it as an opportunity to get back to basics.  Do all that and 2014 should be better than '13.  At the very least, there should be less rust when you get back out.

Today was a great golf day in eastern Ohio.  I have cleaned up and put away the clubs for the year twice, so far.  Today it was in the mid-60's, off for one last round.  Fairways cut close but soft, greens a soft and holding any shot coming in high.  Scored a par round.  Last three holes I was on in regulation with a putt inside 10 feet for birdie but missed each to the right by a half inch.
