I'm sure like some of you - you are in my shoes in the northern part of the country and cannot get outside to swing. My local pro shop in town just recently setup a few simulators. The price is reasonable; I suppose. I like the idea of working on the swing during the winter months. My question is, what is everyone's experience with a golf simulator? Is it worth the time? Or am I better off just swinging in my garage/basement? I know there is no value with putting and the simulator. However, being able to swing for an hour or two looks like a good idea... Look forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks.

All it depends on the simulator.  The few I have around my area are not accurate at all.   I shot -3 at TPC Scottsdale, not likely in real life!!     It is nice to hit a ball, and see some type of ball flight though.  But for the most part, I am just as happy hitting into a net.

I think it depends on the simulator and your goals.  If your shop has a nice one like they have on The Golf Channel then it's worth your while.  If you're just swinging away and just practicing an outdoor range would be better.  Like you said, the short game on the simulator is garbage, but it's cool to see the "flight".  Other than that, it's a net...
In my opinion, the simulator is only worth it if you're hanging out.  I like to get some friends together and play rounds on the simulator.  It's more fun than a range session.

Sims have come a long way in recent years, however, you get what you pay for. I agree that they are not the same as real golf, yet the do provide the player with some valuable feedback. Did you hit it fat or thin, right or left, hook or slice. If you are going there to improve your game just remember that the score may not be an accurate reflection of your game, but you can learn a few things and stay within your golf form if you remain focused.
