  1. Lately I have been playing some terrible golf. For some reason as soon as my game starts to go south I lose interest and it takes 4 or 5 holes to get it back. I realize we can't always play for money but, with nothing on the line, if it isn't some kind of match play tournament to keep me focused, it is getting harder and harder to keep my interest up when nothing is on the line. I know I am babbling and not making sense but I just got back from shooting a whooping 81 and my fuse is lit. Any thoughts.....

    Well David.....

Been there and done that.  I have battled that problem this year.  Last year, PERFECT!!!  Now I get bored and not focused when I'm out "playing" and not partaking in a money game etc.  So, I've decided to cut back on the 'just play times and devote more time and energy to a good pratice session.  With that being said, I have identified that my short game would benefit the most, so my focus has been here.  I play twice a week in leagues (Senior and Men's) and on the weekends we play in tournaments or money games.  The rest of the week is devoted to the short game.  One day I chip, one day I Putt, etc. etc.  You get the idea.  I''ve noticed that when the meaningful days are here....I'm prepared and FOCUSED to paly my best.  Works for me.

    Best of luck.....

David, I am not sure what you typically shoot (mid to high 60's, low 70's) but it sounds like your game is on, although a few mental blocks contribute to the 4 or 5 holes that it takes to get back on track. Getting down on yourself is easy, understanding to focus on improving the bad shots is another. If you have the opportunity, after you hit a bad shot, throw another ball down and hit it again from the same spot (as long as your playing partners are cool with it). That way, you can mentally recover from a bad shot by hitting a good one. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but it should help to get out of the 4-5 hole slump. Matt

When that happens just focus on the process and not the results. Sometimes you can hit the ball great and just not score well others you can slap it around and put up a decent number.

Just remember a bad day of golf is better than a lot of other choices.

It's called GOLF. Everyone including the pros go through it. Just hang on to the roll coaster and it will eventually straighten out. As Y Berra says, Golf is 90 percent mental, the other half is physical.
  6. Thanks guys for all of the positive input. Sometimes I forget that this game for me is between my ears. Overcoming the mental battle is the biggest part of what I need to figure out. Sometimes I need to be told how awesome this game is to remind me just how much fun this game is. I feel like mentally I will attack and have fun. No less and no more. Tee'em high and let'em fly!!!!
