  1. Will they go farther? I love the feel of my AP2 712's but I lost at least 5 yards when I put them in the bag.

Hi Richard, We are the only company to use a high density Tungsten and its allowed us to more precisely place that weight so that the long irons will be easier to get up in the air and achieve a more optimal ball flight which will translate into more distance.  On the short irons, we raised the center of gravity, moved the weighting, narrowed the sole, and strengthened the loft of the 6-PW to help control trajectory and improve your launch.  You may see more carry distance as a result.  But, keep in mind, we created the irons for great feel, improved flighting and more forgiveness.  We want you to be able to hit your irons a precise distance with control so that you can shoot your lowest golf scores.

    Richard,

I'm curious if you were fitted for the 712's.  I would have thought the fitter could adjust club specs to get your desired length when you were testing clubs.  With all the advancements in club fitting, it puzzles me how anyone would not get exactly what they were expecting.

I have the 710 AP2's and did not lose any distance with them.  Really looking forward to the 714 release to test them out and possibly make a change.

    Less distance than.....???

If your prior set had lower lofts and longer shafts than the 712's, then you might lose some distance.  A 6I can be anything from 31 to 28 degrees depending on vendor.  The ultimate goal is precise shots, and that is Titleist's claim, as opposed to marketing as being the longest.  Which of course doesn't mean much if now you can't hit a 4I because it is now the same loft as your 3I from 5 years ago that you also couldn't hit.

Even with driver, I'll give up distance if it means not dropping every third drive from the edge of the woods (the way my group hits, we keep up pace of play by OOO as lateral hazards - the provisional too often follows the first).

  5. I know what your saying. I'm an ex club pro and just used my specs from my old MBs. I'm sure the 714's will be great because the company is outstanding. I love my 913's but I will surely fit myself better with the new irons. Thanks for the feedback, your right.

Richard -I had the same issue as you with my 712 AP2s.   This was compared to a bunch of different irons including my previous 710 AP2s.   I loved the feel of the 712 AP2s but the launch and distance were lacking.  I tried a CB/MB combo but missed the forgiveness of the AP2.  Long story short I had the 712 AP2s bent 1 deg strong, adjusted my swing a bit and  now they are fly gamers.  Can't wait to hit the 714s as the satin face finish will be a big improvement over the glare from the 712s

  7. Thank you, I just had some guy telling me I don,t know what I'm talking about.

I too lost yards from the miz's to the AP2 but my control and consistency went way up.  I can shape shots around corners like a Ferrari...I'm not a power freak so I'll keep em as the manufacturer intended...

I really don't get the whole trend of being able to hit irons 20+ yards further than intended....seems really bad for the game IMO.  When kids see pros on TV hitting 8 irons 185 it makes the game discouraging real fast.

I been playing with the AP2 712 for a month. I switched from cally X20 and have noticed a significant loss in distance, probably about 10yds per club. But I will say my shots are more accurate. If I miss, it's not a bad miss. A miss with a GI iron can end up in a different zip code.

You say you were 10 yard shorter but you're more accurate with the Titleist irons where are your scores I'm assuming that your scores one down which is the whole point of playing golf you may be able to hit a 10 yards further but you're not quite as accurate and you're probably not scoring as well

    Hi Peter,

My scoring was about the same at the time, my short game and putting suck so there were no changes in my scoring. I started to hit the irons much better towards the end of the season. I got my new AP2 712 irons in August and by the end of September I was hitting all my irons very well. 6 iron was going about 190yds, 5i - 205, 4i - 220. Much easier to shape shots with these than the cally X20. I do think the accuracy is better with these than with game improvement irons. With GI irons, alot of my misses were way left; way way way left.

I have not played since October, I live in upstate New York. This morning on the way to work it was -11 degrees. Golf season 2014 feels like it is a million years away :(

220 yards with your 4 iron! Wow that is strong!! I max out at maybe 210 but I definitely have work to do after elbow surgery! Nice going man!!!!!

you hit the ball a long way so you obviously have some skill, playing better player clubs will enable you to become a better ball striker which will improve your score

the 714s have actually been strengthened by approximately 3-4 degrees so the length for all intents and purposes has not been list--if anything, gained by approximately 7 yards in comparison to the previous 2 releases. But as you well know some distance is lost with forged irons versus cast irons ... It's all horseshoes and hand grenades when you're talking distance superiority versus accuracy--and for me I prefer those 7 yards off the tee tighter on the target versus distance any day--which I'm sure most would agree. Good luck!!

  15. I hit my 714 AP2's the same distance as my previous AP2's...FWIW

My 714's are very similar in distance from the 710's.  I have about 6 rounds in with them and have seen a small distance increase while flighting the ball lower (by design with different shafts)

TT ... I was fitted for my 712's even knowing that my 710's are the same fit, I agree with you, getting fit for your clubs is as important--or more important than ... It's just IMPORTANT! Haha!  BUT, believe it or not I have actually noticed about a 7 yard loss in distance from the 710's. I don't know if it's me getting older or what, but--the trade off which was more important for me the last two years was accuracy and forgiveness on off center shots--THAT is where my game was saved!  My guess is that these 714's will be the best of both worlds as it relates to accuracy and distance and all that other silly stuff like feel, trajectory, forgiveness, etc.
