I've putted cross handed since I've taken up the game 18 years ago, started when I was 21.  I never got comfortable with a " normal " grip, and tried "claw"  and " pencil " style.  Not alot of people I golf with putt cross handed, and I get alot of people thinking that I only putt that way because I'm a poor putter.  I'm not gonna say I am a great putter nor a horrible one.  But, I only putt that way cause it is the only grip I can be comfortable using.  Anyone else out there feel the same way.  BTW, my oldest son putts cross handed, and thinks the same as me, however, my two youngest sons are the complete opposite.

I have seen a couple of club members who play cross handed, OMG, I couldn't imagine even trying that, lol.

I would not say I feel the same, but I do putt cross-handed.  For me, putting cross-handed allows me to keep the putter on-line far better then a normal putting grip.  I putted conventional style for years, but swithced to cross-handed when I started to come off putts and needed a way to quiet my hands and swing with my shoulders more.  Cross-handed putting allows me just that.

Good luck with your game and enjoy your boys!

There are several pros that putt cross handed.  Not to mention there are almost as many putter designs as there are pros.  If former woman phenom putts better bent 90 degrees at the waist, good for her.  If I'm pushing putts closing the face, then I'll go cross hand.  I've putted LH and RH over the years, so cross hand feels natural to me, ...both ways.  If I get comments, it's from the blade snobs that wonder about mallets being "real" clubs.  Hey, it's legal and my score.

A Scottish caddie once told that there is no room on the scorecard for comments, only numbers. Putting left hand low keeps your shoulders level and if it works , do it.  My instructor told me to practice that way in a lesson 15 years ago. It worked so well that I never looked back. Cross handed sounds a bit like cross dressing. Left hand low is more politically correct.  Let the scorecard speak for you!

I've putted cross handed for about 5 years and I've never felt that people looked at it as a sign that I was a bad putter looking for a solution.  I was a decent putter with a normal grip, but I was just messing around with a cross hand grip on the practice green one day and made everything I looked at.  I switched that day, and it was a week before my club championship.  Haven't gone back to a regular grip since.  It keeps putter head on a better path for short putts and takes the wrists out of it.

Yeah, I won't change my use of putting cross-handed.  I don't putt that way because I couldn't putt traditionally ( grip ).  I have always used it simply because it was the only grip that fealt normal to me.  I could never get comfortable with any other style.  I know most people think those who putt with an alternate style grip or long putter, are just bad putters and had to try something different.  That's not my case, as this is what I've always used.  I don't worry about what others do or don't do and only listen to those I play with on advice of what I'm doing wrong, not different, lol.

I play golf with an older guy prolly 10 times a year, and his motto is.  And he stutters something fierce, lol.  Which makes all his stories even better, lmao.

nothing wrong with any grip that works.  i've tried cross hand a few times, but never stuck with it.  but if it works, who cares what others are saying?  my Dad putted with one had for a few years before he passed away.  it was just more comfortable for him.  my putter grip is completely different than my "swinging" grip.  i don't understand why anyone would even care how i held my putter.

Good point .... "Let the scorecard speak for you!"  I grew up putting Left Hand Low as a kid and my father's friends used to make fun of me, trying to get in my head ... but it never worked.  I used to take their money every week!  My father always said "its not how, its how many" .... it doesn't matter how you get it in the hole, it just matters the # of times it takes you to get there.  Just like in "TIn Cup" ... you can put with a rake, shovel or whatever as long as the ball gets in the hole.

If it's comfortable to you, who cares what other people think.  Make sure to ask them at the end of the round how many birds they had vs you and how many 3 putts they had.  Maybe then they will understand?  Do you think people still make fun of Jim Furyk??  Doubtful

I putt cross handed and I would consider putting the best part of my game.  Paddy Harrington does it too.  Whatever's comfortable and whatever works.  Cross em up- or don't

Cross handed doesn't work for me, but you have to go with whatever gives you confidence and feels good.

Palmer was asked just a couple years ago if there was anything different he would have done with his game and he stated that he would have went with the left hand low putting grip. I have putted left hand low for years and is just more natural for me and putting is the strong part of my game.

For me putting is all about feel. I first have to feel comfortable in the way I set up and the way I hold the putter, this helps me produce good tempo & smooth stroke. If a player feels more comfortable putting cross-handed then they should without any doubts put that way. Putting is a 50/50 mix of line & speed, I have noticed for my stroke that I putt better with a flo-neck putter than a plumbers neck putter. I have been thinking of installing a Super-Stroke grip on my anser putter(plumbers neck)and trying it left hand low using that type of grip to see if I would hole more putts?

I've toyed with left hand low a couple of times, but never for a whole round.  But this winter, armed with the Dual Balance Futura X, I'm going to convert to this cross handed grip.  I found this year that I struggled with a few things that I believe left hand low will help eliminate.  I've played a couple of rounds so far with the new putter/grip, and so far so good as I'm hitting my lines well.  Lag putting needs some work though, as I'm tending to leave long putts short, but practice with the grip and putter should resolve that.
