    What's your golf-game related new year's resolution?

Mine is something we all like to think we do but we tend to slack off on.  I want to improve on making sure that I carry out all of the steps of my pre-shot routine on EVERY shot, not just some.  This will help me with focus during practice and play.  It will eliminate the "I was rushed" excuse.  I will no longer just hit ball after ball at the range; by implementing my new season resolution I will be hitting SHOTS instead of balls by backing off and thinking about my target, the flight, and the path.

    Very simple - putt less...

Mine is to play every day. OH,I forgot ,that's what I do now that I'm retired!  LOL

putt more!  during practice sessions, so I can putt less on the course.

the putting green is the most underutilized part of a practice range.

after interviewing many retired tour pros, the one regret almost all of them had was they wished they spent more time practicing putting.

After my fitting at Scotty's gallery, it has given me a renewed and very joyous and re-engerized desire to work on my putting game.  Putting has now become my #1 practice area.  I start everytime I go to the course by practing putting, then short game then range.  After playing, I go back to the short game and finish off putting again.  It's amazing just eliminating 3 putts how much your score drops.

I think this is a pretty good goal. Also, maybe mid way through the year, re-evaluate your resolution and see if you can improve on it from there. Give yourself small goals and then after you beat them, set more goals!

I'm shooting to get down to a 1 hcp.

Dropping 4 strokes won't be easy, but this off season I'll be back at it with TPI.  Last year, fitness helped me more than anything.

In addition to burning off Christmas cookies, I'm also going to try to develop a go to tee ball.  I tend to lose the most strokes by getting in trouble off the tee.  During my range sessions, I'm going to hone in on a controlled fade with the driver.  I believe the fade finds the fairway more often, and it's my natural shot shape.  When the pressure is on, I need something I'm 100% comfortable with.

I'm also going to keep my putter in shape by practicing 6 footers in the evenings.

If I can eliminate the big number (usually caused by hitting one in the woods), and drain a few more 6 footers, I'll be on the right track.

Apparently Jordan Speith was using them (-1x?) in December, won twice.  I'm sold.  Apparently lower compression with no sacrifice of distance or short game response.  Titleist will be releasing the official details at the PGA.

Be very ommitted to the lesson that I took from our Master Instructor, which should lead to improving my game to a single digit handicap.  Alignment and tempo.  This will apply to all aspects of my game.  I too, could loose a few pounds that I have gained since Thanksgiving.  Looking forward to a great 2015 with my 915D2 in my bag along with my full compliment of Titleist clubs.

Big Picture I would say  60 % GIR , If I do that everything else should fall into place

At the range more and more after warm up I try to "play" my home course. Hit each club in order like I would if I was playing the course. Pre-shot routine included.

Get my GIR well above 50%.  That’s easily the weakest part of my game right now.  Currently I average 25% - 30% which is disgusting considering I've gotten my fairway average up to 50%+.

Easy - Reduce my hdcp index by 2 strokes by improving my GIR to 50% and focusing on every putt.

    1. Concentrate on every shot.

    2. Enjoy the day.

Meet those two objectives and you'll play well every time.

I'm going to support my efforts at lowering my handicap by increasing flexibility and balance by regularly going to yoga and Tai Chi. And.. practicing more after my golf lessons.

Develop a go to shot say a wedge shot that I am deadly on and play to set that shot up on every hole possible. Than hopefully I will not be hitting driver off every tee and leaving myself a bunch of in between club shots.

  23. Great question!!!! Love this thread.

    • Become more consistent with mid-iron play. 4-6/7.
    • Take full advantage of scoring opportunities after good tee-shots. Flag hunt for birdies.
    • Become a far better lag putter. I hit more than enough greens to make a ton of pars/birdies. Need to improve on getting it into that 3-4ft circle.
Fired up to read everyone's responses!!

Since rebuilding my swing due to an auto accident, the theme remains the same, practice, practice, practice.  Playing is a big part, but practicing with a purpose is my key.

    To break 90 by:

    - putting less

    - hitting more fairways

    - focused practice

Mine is committing to strength and flexibility exercises CONSISTENTLY throughout the winter in preparation for Spring golf.  Since retirement a few years ago, I've golfed more but scored a little worse and I feel that a large part of that can be attributed to loss of flexibility and strength.  I've started in Januarys before with good intentions but never stayed the course.  This year I am determined to do so.  Hopefully I will reap some golfing benefits.

Amen to Chris H and getting religious about a pre-shot routine.  I need to practice putts as much as I go to the range, as well, not just a few minutes before a round.

Thanks Don! And thanks to all who are responding. Let's use this as motivation to get to the course early and stay late!

My goal would be to consistently reduce my putts per round to under 30.  Too many 3-putts and missed putts this past season.  This will also require my short game to be sharper, particularly around the green.  I'll have to spend more time around the practice green and chipping area.

VISUALIZATION !!  I alway know the shot I want to hit and usually execute it fairly well but I play my best when I  " see it " first.

bunkers would be next.  I don't have access to many of them off the course.  and maybe a controlled fade.  I play a slight draw or straight shot and don't have confidence in the accuracy of my fade.

    good luck to everyone, cheers

FINALLY - after 4 years of starting at 130+ and 15 year off-brand clubs, meandering into Titleist equipment, taking lessons, I finally broke 90 with an 86 today. No significant club changes this year, but today I was religious with my pre-shot routine. Added an improved short game, and it all came together. Got to this year's goal and can set a new goal for next year.
