    Hey Team Titleist –

As we pass the midway point of summer, it’s time to check in. We’re curious, what was your golf goal for this summer and how is your progress coming along?

I can tell you, my goal was to practice at least three times a week and play once every two weeks (I’m still getting back into the swing of things). Since joining Team Titleist, I’m back at it and accomplishing the goal one week at a time!

We look forward to hearing from everyone.

My goal for year 3 was to get down to a 5.0 index. I've gotten close, but I'm not sure I am going to make my August deadline. I can see improvement in all aspects of my game so I know it is going to happen, just not as soon as I would like. I'm sure there is also going to be a bit of growing pains since I have made a few swing changes improvements.

    Hey Liebs!

    Welcome to the Team!

My goals this year were intentionally set a bit lower than most summers, knowing a new job, moving to a new townhouse, and a divorce (after 25 years) were going to impact my golf. Ya think?

I still get out as much as I can and even won my club's Senior Club Championship!

I manage to keep my index below 5, still do my sideline work for the AJGA and the Players Amateur, and am keeping a positive outlook to more golf in the fall and in 2016!

    Cheers!

  4. Abby L, When I switched from cally to Titleist I set a goal to take to the next level. My average score was 96. Since the switch my average has dropped to 89 and still dropping. The club championship is coming up August 1st & 2nd. My goal is to win the senior flight!!!!! steve b

    Hi Abby L.,

My name is Steve S. and I enjoyed your post. I am a supervisor at a county owned course in southern N.J. My goal this summer was to play at least half as muh as I worked there. I have come up a little short, but closer than I thought. I shoot in the low 90s. Should have broken 90 several times but for a couple three putts did not. Almost there. The course is a great layout, built by George Fazio in 1962. Parr 72 and quite a challenge for a muni course. Hope you meet all your goals,

    Play Well,

    Steve S.

Consistency with more practice and playing time (sometimes I travel too much for work) and break 85.  Handicap is down 4 and dropping, and have had a 42 for nine.  Getting close - hoping to reset the goal this year and not wait until next year for the next goal. Have all the arrows, just need to keep the archer from quivering on the driver.

Hi Abby... I just got back into golf again a little over 18 months ago. I had been away from the game for some 10 plus years as a result of torn rotator cuffs, knee surgery, and work/family commitments. So, my goal this year (2015) was to improve my ball striking with my irons and more tangibly, lower my handicap to single digits and score more rounds in the 70's. I am so very happy and thrilled to say that I have accomplished it already and am looking to recalibrate my goals. It was so good to finally break 80 again since I returned from my long layoff and my injuries! And to boot, Titleist has played a huge part in all of it (913 D2, 714 AP2's, Vokey SM5 wedges and my Scotty Cameron putter!)

Hi Abby, My new seasons resolution was: Mine is something we all like to think we do but we tend to slack off on. I want to improve on making sure that I carry out all of the steps of my pre-shot routine on EVERY shot, not just some. This will help me with focus during practice and play. It will eliminate the "I was rushed" excuse. I will no longer just hit ball after ball at the range; by implementing my new season resolution I will be hitting SHOTS instead of balls by backing off and thinking about my target, the flight, and the path. I feel like I am working towards this better form of practice by taking it one shot at a time at the range. This has helped me be able to execute more shots on the course. CH

    Welcome to the team Abby!

My goals were to have more fun and get off the tee to give me a chance.

Didn't start out too great with having more fun and after talking to a good golf buddy, I ask him for his honest opinion and he gave it to me.  Since then, I've been more relaxed and having more fun.   If I have a good solid round, great!  If i have a bad round, there's always another round.  Life goes on.

As for getting off the tee, didn't start out to great.  So I took some lessons and switch from a CW to a 915 D2.  As of late, things have been coming along good so I'm happy.  Plenty of golf left so I'm hoping I continue to improve.

I will say this has been a great summer for golf, best one yet.

Hope everyone else is having a great summer as well.

    Cheers

My goals for 2015 were to incorporate some minor swing changes and make them permanent. The progress has been steady and I am close to having them fell natural. The genesis of these changes was to make my ball striking more consistent and my swing more efficient.

    Hi Abby,

My progress was interrupted by a move from TN to GA, but now that we're settled in and I've found a great coarse to play and practice my goals are to practice with more purpose and began a workout routine more gear toward my golf swing much like how they do it at TPI. Hope everyone reached their goals and welcome to TT Abby!

My goal was to get my handicap index down into single digits. I briefly got there with a 9.6 but am currently at 10.6 In mid stream my new goal is to get back to start playing golf again because I had surgery on my right shoulder to remove a bone spur. doctor has set mid August for starting to putt and chip.

At the beginning of the year I set goals to simply play more and have fun.  I wanted to focus on really enjoying myself on the course and focus more on the social side.  I knew if I did that, my scores would go down.  Maybe not as fast as if I was out grinding away, but I would have fun.  Unfortunately work and life got in the way and I've only played three rounds this year, and they were all on an impromptu golf trip back in March.  Hopefully I'll be able to get out some the rest of the summer and the fall.  Fall golf in the Northeast is some the best anywhere, and I'm hoping to enjoy it the best I can!

I can relate Tim!  two kids under 5 severely hampers the golf time.  My oldest is getting better at making it through 9 holes though so it's been fun to get her in to the game.

This is a follow up. I have been given the green light to start putting and it is physically more demanding than I thought it would be after my shoulder surgery. Spent an hour an a half the first day out and my shoulder was very sore for the next two days. Limit my self to no more than 30 minutes a day and build from there. My new goal. Get 100 % healthy and not be in a hurry to get back on the course.

Goal # 1 play better. Thanks to switching to Titleist irons that has happened.

So, I set a new goal, play consistently better. Still working on that one. LIFE SEEMS TO GET IN THE WAY!

Abby - Is it really the midway point?  Ugh, it feels like it just started.  Well, my goal at the beginning of the year was to finally surpass my 20 year average of less than 10 rounds a year and practice after work as much as I can.  I have achieved both of those goals, and my play (at times) has reflected it.  I've gone from a 13.6 to a 11.9 - another goal was single digit by October.  Hmm, I'd like to see that happen!

On another note -  We are so happy to have you, Abby, on the Titleist Interactive Marketing Team!  Looking forward to lots of great things on Team Titleist!

I hope to cut my HCI by 40%. My new 915 woods and 714 AP1 irons have enabled me to lower it by 25% but I hope to get the balance by 12/31

Welcome to the team, Abby! It's great to have you on-board.

My goal this year has been to fix a few old habits that have crept back into my golf swing.  This all started back in May when I had my daughter take a casual iPhone video of my iron swing. Once I was revived and the nausea passed, I knew I had my work cut out for me.

You know the old saying,"feel doesn't equal real"?  Well I wasn't even close.  What felt to me like a 3/4 controlled swing, attacking the ball  from the inside with a lot of forward shaft lean was really a way-past-parallel, early-extended, over-the-top hot mess.  Kind of like an octopus falling out of a tree.

So, with the help of some good friends (thanks, Bubba and Mike!) I've found some great drills to get back on track.  At least I know what correct is again and I'm making my practice time productive. This season may be a wash scoring-wise, but I think if stay disciplined, the overhaul will be well worth it in the long run.

    Great topic, Abby!

You don't get better or improve your game without achievable goals. With the exception of one tournament goal unmet, I've met two out of three of this year's targets. I'm shooting my age on a regular basis and currently carry a single digit handicap. My reset is: shot par for the first time and eventually something in the sixties. Most likely, carry overs for next season. Now if I can stop three putting and get better control of my short irons, I feel reasonably confident that one or both are doable. If not, so be it!

    Welcome to Team Titleist Abby!

As far as goals for the year, I am a little behind to say the least.  My primary goal this year was to spend more time practicing and really focusing on consistently executing less that full swing shots with my irons and increasing my feel on these shots.  I have made some improvements in this area, but certainly not due to focused practice.  Between a two young kiddos, a busy work schedule so far this year, and a busy golf tournament schedule I really have not had a lot of practice time.  I have brought home some crystal from some of the tournaments so the game is working, but I still need to focus on my goals for the year.  Hopefully the second half of the year will allow a little more time to hit the practice area.

Since retiring and moving to So. Carolina, my goal was to play more golf and lower my handicap to 10 or lower. When we moved from New York my handicap index 13.4. As of 07/24, my handicap is down to 11.1. Being able to play more, taking lessons and using Titleist balls have improved my golf game. My goal is still in sight.

  23. This is year #2 of taking this great game more seriously.  With the help of a good PGA instructor who uses video a lot I am scoring in the mid 90s and my goal is to break 90 before Labor Day.  92 is my best to date. I play once a week and hit a bucket once a week.  I play a Pinnacle ball but have to say I have mz clubs which I love. I live not far from the Titleist ball factory in Fairhaven and know many employees. The clubs are for the younger set I think.  The balls I can use.

Abby - good luck with your goals!

For the summer, I was looking good to break 80 for the first time (two 82's in May/June).  Then I got sick, and I have not played 18 since.  Practiced and played six holes yesterday, and will be playing tomorrow.  We will see . . . .

Since I dropped my index by 1.5 last year, my goal for this year was to do that again.   So far, I have dropped it by 0.7.

Welcome to the Team Titleist Team Abby!!

My goals this year have been multi-faceted as I have been trying to make incremental improvements to a few area of my game.  I want to improve a few different areas to improve consistency, ball flight and are going to be great long term improvements.

My first goal has been tempo, as everyone says but has a hard time believing slow and smooth is better than hard and fast on swing tempo.  My driver has been easier to handle in this category amazingly but my irons have been the issue for major improvement need.  This facet of the game has been really improving as of late.  My ball flight has been better and penetrates the wind much better and I seem to be spinning the ball less making for more consistency.

Tempo has been really helping on my around 100 yards and in wedge shots as well as the putter.  This past week I had the most success with everything coming together.  Here are two examples of my Titleist irons coming through for me in the clutch:

Sorry it's into the sun a bit but a AP2 smooth 6-iron that landed a few feet past the flag and ended up about 15 feet.  Converted the birdie with my Scotty.

On the par 4 18th, drove my ProV1 into the fairway with the 913 D2.  Had 120 yards left downwind, played my 50 deg Vokey wedge and this was my result to finish my day.  Converted this putt for my 6th birdie of the round and it felt amazing to gain accomplishment from some of the things you have been working on with your game and feel the confidence start to build throughout the round.  For those out there struggling or working on your game I am sharing this not to share my specific results but to encourage you to never give up and keep pushing to your goals!!

They will come just stay positive and have fun!!

Lowered my handicap to a 2 so far.  Have over 75 rounds in 2015.

I work on my game every for a tournament in Las Vegas at the end of August.  So that's coming up fast.

Every day we get to play is a great day.

Same goal as always every year, and every round.  To improve my game, all aspects of it.  Hopefully get out and play as much as the past years and lower that handicap which I have done...down to a 5.6 as of today.  Was around a 12  four years ago.

This year, 2015, my most wanted goal as part of my game was to better all of my short game and put a lock on it. I've worked hard at it and I continue to review and revisit what I've learned as for maintenance. So far, I have been happy with what I can do, although, ...you guessed it...I now would like it even better. But the important thing is that I am thankful and better than when I started earlier this year. It's really enjoyable to have something to fall back into. Thanks for this opportunity !!

I've had a funky year this year, both on the course and between my ears, which has made for a poor start to my season.  Now, the first week of August, I'm finally of a mindset to play some good golf, although I need a lot of work to get my game together.  My GHIN has risen 2 points since the end of last year, so I'm setting my goal to get those 2 points back.  This will require me to slow down, shorten my swing, improve my putting and finishing a round.  I'm not far off from shooting some decent rounds, typically just a missed putt here or a poor chip there.  Shaving 2-4 shots off shouldn't be this hard!
