Having two swing thoughts is one too many. What is your singular swing thought of this season?

I'm not playing as much as previous years, so I'm battling a few issues.  But the one thought that can help me is tempo.  Nothing ever good happens when I'm too quick.

Trying to eliminate the 17 point checklist down to "hit the ball with the handle" - Moe Norman. Need to get the pre-shot routine down to about 5 steps then address the ball and... (above).

    Hi Chris,

I've actually been doing OK this season putting two swing thoughts into one......kind of like the baseball "strong up the middle", I've been working with keeping a solid, balanced base and taking that all the way through keeping my head steady through the swing. At times this can lead to not swinging through the ball as firmly as I'd like, but it's actually working pretty well....when I remember it consistently...!!

It's funny but when I miss a few days of Golf and do not have much time to warm up, I work on tempo. My swing thought is to watch the ball dissappear. By doing this I make solid contact.. If my tempo is good I can score pretty well.

I have two basic swing thoughts. 1) SMOOTH, 2) Get the hands through. If my swing is smooth and I get my hands through, the shot is solid. I can then work the ball right or left much easier.

For me this year it has been to not let my hands get "under" the club on the take-away... that's when I'm playing.

On the range I'm working on rotating around on my left leg... needless to say, major work in progress.

It depends on how my warm up goes. I either say "Relax!" or "Turn through the ball" to myself depending on if I'm slicing everything (Relax!) or pulling everything (Turn through).

Throw my hands at the target.  That is all.

For me, it's STOP coming over the top!   A work in progress...

C'mon Chris you know better! Swing thoughts are supposed to be POSITIVE! =

I do this sort of thing professionally (I'm a sports psychologist).  Chris, have two swing thoughts is too many for some, but just right for others.  A swing thought is mandatory, but having too many swing thought leads to players feeling overwhelmed.  My swing thought is a tempo key as swinging too fast is my downfall.

I've been trying to banish swing thoughts all together. That's the challenge for me.  Thus my one thought this summer is "don't linger; just hit it."  It's sort like what Crash Davis said in Bull Durham. "Don't think Meat. Just pitch."

The more I can stop any pre-swing thoughts and keep my brain clear, the better off it seems I am.

(Yikes, I think I've just made three posts here and included movie quotes in each one.  Probably need to get out more)
