Okay, So you make a triple bogey and on the next tee, in a fit of rage, you swing out of your shoes but, perfectly and by accident. Why doesn't the ball carry 325 yards like the tour players? We aren't that different in size? Same equipment for the most part. And remember, I said "by accident". We play every Sunday with the same four guys and I don't ever remember a drive that was even close to 325 or 340 like so many tour players.

  2. Technique is more important than muscle in this example...that is what makes these tour pros able to carry the ball so far!

    Great question!

Smash factor, launch angle, and spin rate.... Per the trackman, I swing faster with a "smooth" transition versus swinging "out of my shoes".

The pros make and efficient timed move.  When I try to swing out of my arz my timing is off and the results aren't usually good.  When I swing in tempo and with less wildness the swing is smoother and results are farther and better!!!

It doesn't matter how big or small you are, it comes down to tempo...

I was lucky enough to be up close to a few pro players last week and watching them hit was simply amazing..  EVERY swing was the same and their ball hit the same spot every single time...

I'll stick to my day time job....

Mechanics! Only when those are good does swing speed matter.

Lots of variables. Club head speed is the biggest determinant. Swing technique and lots of specialized training to improve muscle response both impact the speed. Those of us with day jobs don't get into the gym or hit the ranges for a couple of hours every day. The average pro spends more time a month with coaches than I have in my career. Do notice if the course had had rain at least into the first day. The 325 to 340 yard distances move down to the 295-315 because the fairways are no longer bone dry and as hard as granite. All before we get to sheer native athletic ability that also defines why I have a day job.

I think it's technique more than anything else, especially when you consider guys like Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler.  I think they are in the 5'8" - 5'10" range and they certainly move the ball out into the 300 yard + range.

Hi,  It is technique, rotational speed and efficient kinematic sequence.  The sequence in which you fire and decelerate your muscles in the correct order.  Greg Rose (one of the founders of TPI wrote an article about it a couple of years ago:  http://www.mytpi.com/articles/biomechanics/kinematic_sequence_basics.  Jordan is actually a bit over 6' tall and Justin is about 5' 10".

Barry, you are exactly right. I'll be 50 next month, and I can still hit it 300+ on my good days. The technique at impact to generate optimum clubhead speed is the difference. Tour players and Top amatuers have consistency at impact, and consistency in their tempo.
