I love playing in all kinds of weather.....I take rain, cold, wind as a challenge I suppose.

Living in Eastern NC I get to enjoy about 11, maybe even year round golf as long as I don't mind some very cold temps at times.

What temp is too cold...is there such a thing?

For me, I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum....hot summer temps are the struggle.

Coldest temp I've played in was about 38.

What do TT Members use/do to stay warm?

    Thanks, DA

With my group, living in western ny under 35° is the max..

I'd say somewhere below 45 to not be enjoyable anymore. That doesn't say that I'm not out there on occasion, but it definitely takes the fun out of it for me. I'll still go to the range in stuff like now, it's 19 degrees to put it in perspective.

I'm from California so my limit is the low 50's.  I really only like playing in shorts weather, but that's not realistic.

I'm in western NY too and 35 is as low as I will go as well, provided there's no precipitation.  Although we have played during a brief snow shower a few times!!

Playing tomorrow morning here in St Louis....will probably be somewhere between 32 - 34 when I the off.  They are predicting mid 40s for the high around 3:00pm tomorrow, but I'll be done well before then.  I can deal with the cold, but can't take the wind when it gets down in the mid 40s and below.

Most, if not all my gears when I play golf are FootJoys/Titleist and I layer according to the temps I'll be out with. I'm in the high desert in the L.A. county, so the SoCal Team Play season begins in January and we've played in as low as mid/low 30s with wind. I am not a fan of cold weather at all, but if I had to, I'll be there.

I don't mind the summer heat at all. I'm in Northern California so its dry. However I used to live in PA so the lowest degree I'll play is 50. Anything under that is uncomfortable.

55*-60* is the lowest, then again it doesn't get too much colder then that down here. Oh yah a little Crown to take the chill off.Hit um straight, Dave...

When you can walk on top of the water and play your ball...that's when you know it's too cold.

For me it all depends on the ground temps. If the ground has frost, you need to wait until the frost has lifted so as not to damage the course. I have played in all weather conditions, from rain to snow, to 100 degrees and high humidity. If the course is open and carts are available, I'll play. Jim

I don't really have a set temperature.  But I will say wind keeps me off the course quicker than cold temps.  Not for just the obvious wind chill, but a constant wind is draining and by the end of the round, it's just not fun anymore.

I've always told myself that I was a fair weather golfer but since this summer I have played in as high as 103 her in Houston and this winter I have played multiple rounds that started in the mid 30's.  Last Tuesday played. Dallas @ Bear Creek and it never eclipsed 45 there. That being said, if there is sun then I am just fine. I use an adidas climawarm base layer and typically a fleece of some sort over that.  Keep the hot hands and mitts on hand and use a ski cap too if needed.  The key for me is my hands.  When it's cold we all know your body pulls blood from your extremities to the vital organs.  I take a piece of key advice from Bear Grylls when it's cold and I am continually doing jumping jacks or vigorous arm circles to keep blood in my hands and finger tips.  Trust me. It works like you would never believe.

I play in New England and guess I got used to having cold weather rounds. I have played in the snow on more than one occasion. 20 degree sunny day with no wind doesn't feel all that bad. 30 degrees, cloudy and 15-20 mph wind feels awful.

Sandbaggers practice facility in Pembroke MA is open 364 days a year and yes you can hit range balls in the snow.

I recently played in 36 degree weather over the holiday's. Living in Portland, Or this is not common. However I could not turn down an opportunity to play at a buddy's private club. Of course, I felt like the kid in A Christmas Story with all the layers of clothing I was wearing. Definitely made it hard to swing.

Anything below 40 is too cold.  Maybe higher if the wind is blowing and there is rain.  If rain not below 50.  I once played when it was 40 and the wind was blowing and then rain.  It took me hours to recover.

Hey David A. I live in southern N.J. On the Jersey Shore. Always have a wind issue this time of year. My regular foursome have teed it up twice when it was 27 degrees. I almost made it up to 32 degrees both days. There is really nothing you can wear to keep you warm for 18 holes. We play 9 and take a coffee break. Then head back out for the back 9. It is never to cold to play golf. That is sort of our motto. Happy New Year!

    Play Well,

    Steve S.

Living in the northeast, for me the temperature is less important than the course conditions.  I've played when it was 40*, but the ground was still playable.

I layer up with UA and a lined windshirt/pullover.  Long johns on occasion, winter hat and mittens.

Depends on the wind.  I can go down to about 40 degrees in a light breeze.  But if the winds a blowin' and its chilly, I don't play.  Runny nose and eyes leaking, nah, its time for computer golf.

    Amen to that Allen.

Playing when the temperature dips below 40 is doable - as long as the wind stays relatively calm.  We were lucky enough to play the day after Christmas here in MA.  Barely needed the extra layers.  Thanks Santa.

Could have played on New Year's Eve but there was too much football to be watched.

I live in Ohio and work out doors a lot all winter long. I always say if I will work in it I will golf in it. It was 36 when we teed off Last round but warmed up to 45 by the 4th hole. I will say it all depends on the wind. If the wind is up you cant put on enough cloths and stay still make a good swing.

I have played when it was 35, sunny and no wind and been much more comfortable than days when it was 50 with wind and rain.

So, to answer your question how cold is too cold?  I haven't found it yet!

I live in Statesboro, Georgia right now and normally can play year round with out having to worry about it getting really cold. I think it depends on different factors. If it was 32 and sunny with no wind, the round would not be that bad. I played the other day and it was 45 overcast and the wind was gusting at up to 25 mph and it felt freezing. I love to play golf and as long as the course is open and playable, I will be out on the course attempting to play.

Played Christmas day in Chicago and the temp was 40-41* with no wind.  Sunny skies made a huge difference...

Here in Rochester NY, I'd have to say 40 and below will probably stop me from playing.  But it really depends on whether it's just cold and sunny or raining and damp.  I also don't like extreme heat.  In the summer my buddies know that to play with me it's early morning rounds.  You'll never see me playing in the afternoon on a hot summer day.
