Carried one in my bag for years. I can't seem to hit it for nothing. I hit my 3 iron so much better. Anyone else out there in the same boat ? Thinking about leaving it home from now on.

I hit my 3 wood pretty well but once in awhile I am thinking of leaving my driver home...

I would wish to leave my putter home, but unfortunately you cannot handle the course without one :-)
  3. 3 wood is my 'money club'. I can consistently count on this club off the fairway, tee, or out of a low bunker. lol.

I'm in the opposite boat; the 3 wood is my absolute go to club while the 3 iron has been banished to the closet. For whatever reason, I rarely hit a poor shot with the 3 wood and I'm able to work the ball a bit with it. Good luck!

I love my 915 3 metal off the tee but its sometimes erratic off the turf. this spring I think we will become friends... I tried to hit a 3 iron recently. I used to love that club but I've become spoiled by my hybrids and now it seems more difficult than it should be.

Especially we've lost some from our prime, it is not uncommon to move to a 16.5 (4W) or 18 (5W) fairway.

If I were you, I'd practice hitting it off a tee.

I'll jump into your boat. Could never hit a 3-wood for anything, and my long irons are one of the best facets to my game.

    Dave L,

I left my 3 wood out of the bag in favor of a 5 wood. My goal was to have a consistent par 5 2nd shot club that I could confidently and consistantly swing. I also adjusted my set to add another wedge as a compliment to the bag. However, before you take the 3 wood out of the bag I would ask a few questions.

    1. What is the main reason for you to have a 3wood? Off the tee or fairway? Generally, most AMs do better with a 3 wood off the tee.
    2. Have you been fitted? After I was fitted to the right shaft in my woods I saw a significant increase in consistency which translated to confidence
    3. Is it woods in general? If so have you though about putting in a hybrid?

    Good luck to you.
  10. Have you considered carrying an 18 degree fairway metal by Titleist? Also, consider an easy launch shaft such as Alida Tour Green or Aldila Tour Blue?? I would also have you evaluate if a shorter length club would make sense, for instance for my 3 wood the std length is 43" but I find 42.5" works best for me...

Very happy with the driver, in fact I can hit it off the deck pretty good. Just the 3Wood has me frustrated.

Maybe you should get fitted for the 3 wood properly. What purpose would you be trying to hit a driver off the deck? It's a different swing with a driver and a 3 wood. The driver you hit up and the 3 wood you hit down or sweep it.

I was just at a panel discussion for Junior golf where the speakers were Rachel Rohanna (LPGA Tour) and Nathan Smith ( 4 Time Mid Am Champ)

They talked about what they had in their bags and neither had a 3 wood. Nathan Smith said he uses a stronger 2 hybrid that is easier to hit than a 3 wood and goes a comparable distance.

Hello Dave N. Maybe a quick stop at the fitters is all you need. I am a mid - handicapper and love my 915F 3 wood. Off the deck or off the tee, it is one of my best weapons. Good luck with it.

    Being a senior golfer I love my 915 16.5* 4 wood. It fits so well with my 12* driver, 915 21* 7 wood and 915 24* Hybred.

Well I made the call today to pull it from the bag. Not sure what will take it's place yet.
  17. Always play what is best for your game. That will change from round to round but for me I play:

    913 9.5*
    915 13.5*
    913H 17.5*
    T-MB 4-iron

For me, that combination suits every tee shot imaginable and I consider them all to be "money" clubs but the 915 13.5* is flawless for me.

Just practice with it and don't feel compelled to carry a 3-wood because everyone else does. Play your game even if that means you play a 3 iron off every tee shot.

I've switched both my 915 driver shafts and 3 wood to the aldila tour blue. Love them both .
  19. I carry and hit well a 13 degree (3 wood) fairway metal. I hit it well. Used off the tee on shorter fairways to stay in play. I use a 3 iron for long shots from deep rough or fairway traps.

I actually got my 3 wood from my neighbor, who could never get the ball in the air with it. For some strange reason it fit me, and I could launch the ball well from the fairway most of the time. However, for some strange reason I'm not very good off a tee with it. Go figure! At any rate, it is my go-to club for that second shot on par 5's and wouldn't be without it.

My favorite clubs are a Titleist driver with a 3 wood shaft and a Titleist 2 hybrid with a 4 hybrid shaft. Want something easy to hit?
