What do you think of people wearing fluorescent color clothing while golfing. Do you think its distracting or pleasing. I will wear a fluorescent shirt with matching socks and get kidded about it but I'd rather be a trend setter than a follower!!!! I dress nice for golfing and it has rubbed off on others that I know.

I say wear what makes you feel good as long as you meet the course's dress code. I personally cannot wear the latest trend in golf shoes that look like sneakers because they do not support my feet like Icon shoes do.

Unless I'm in a 4-some and the only one in khakis and not wildly colored knickers (making me self-conscientious) I'm ok with whatever color that otherwise meets the local dress code. With what the pros wear, day-glo colors are the trend.

I wear what I like and don't care what others wear as long as the don't play at a snail's pace!

That is a personal thing and as long as it is well coordinated and taseful, I am fine with it. I try not to judge what people wear on the golf course. I like bright colors and wear them, of course I am brand loyal and FJ does not make a lot of real bright colors. I too enjoy wearing well coordinated outfits on the golf course and have a large collection of FJ apparel and matching shoes.

I say wear whatever colors you want. Personally I like to dress golf-neatly, tucked shirt, with somewhat conservative colors, without calling too much attention to myself. (Heck, I might top a driver or fat an iron here or there. Gotta keep the expectations low for those looking on. )

If you don't want to be laughed at for wearing something really loud and obnoxious ala Rickie Fowler or Jon Daly, you better have the game to back it up. I get a kick out of the 45 year old who dresses like Rickie, but can't break 100. Why call attention to yourself? If you are 10 years old, it's fine. Even 15. But once you are somewhat grown-up, IMO, you look ridiculous wearing loud stuff, unless you are shooting in the 70s or better, regularly. (Even then, you still look kinda silly, but at least you got game!)

Being comfortable is a key part of playing good golf. In the end, wear what makes you comfortable as long as it abides by the club rules. Everything else is just personal preferences.

I wear whatever I want to on the course as long as it has a collar and not ragged. But then again my sleeve tats do freak some people out, gives e an edge. HA HA. Hit um straight , Dave...

    Hi Bob T.,

Bright colours are fine and indeed have a long history in the game of golf ... well perhaps not as long as some of the other customs or habits, but the bright colours have definitely been around since the mid-sixties (think Doug Sanders, George Knudson, etc.)

As a matter of style, wearing one bright piece of clothing is great so long as it is complemented with basic, more neutral colours for the remainder of the wardrobe. For example, a bright blue pair of pants with a white, black or navy polo top is well matched. Let there only be one "star piece" of clothing the rest is complementary to it.

The goal is to generally ensure that the overall look is well put together -- or as my clothing advisor generally states, the goal of dressing well, whether it be in the boardroom, workplace, or golf course, is to look well put together without having looked like you spent a lot of time preparing!

I think the danger is dressing with too many loud or bright colours ... then it "screams" out that you overdid it. Think of Rickie Fowler in his earlier days with the long locks and head to toe in his Oklahoma Orange ... John Daly with his loud pants that look like they came from a college girls slumber party.

Wear what you want and like- it's your call. But, please, no tank tops no cutoffs and just look decent on a golf course. ...and keep a good pace...more importantly.

Golf attires are changing, and many are coming out with some unusual colors and design cuts. I have a few bright colored shirts and it's fun to be in it. Yes, most especially when playing well. (I'll just have to know when to time it. lol)

Who is to say what others wear? My wife buys my golf shirts and pants, and not at full price. TJ Maxx. Brand names at less than half the price. We have two teenage boys at home. 17 and 15, both over 6ft., 3inches. Food, college, I'm lucky I work at a course and get to play for free. Winter time, when the big name courses drop there green fees is good for me. Don't get me wrong, I do have about 5 or 6 Titleist hats. Got to draw the line somewhere.
    Play Well,

I have a few pairs of Loudmouth pants that I like to break out on special occasions (scrambles, outings, etc.) but I typically keep it khaki and polo. With that said it doesn't bother me a bit...as long as you play steady and keep the conversations with the cute beer gal at a minimum (hard to do sometimes).

I'm all for fun fashion on the golf course, especially bright colors. I always enjoy seeing something new while playing - from tops to the bottoms, socks and shoes, or unique headcovers.

Great topic, thanks for sharing Bob!

I'm a firm believer in multiple fluorescent colors, and will try and tie together belts, socks, and even the wife!

Golf your ball on pace, in turn and/or when ready. Have the etiquette of a marginally decent human being in shared spaces. And if you have those taken care of, wear whatever the hell makes you happy and feel good about yourself.

  20. For me, is all aobut having fun. I play twice a week and rarely wear Khakis. Color coordinated, bright, patterns, logos, anything that isn't ordinary. I always stay within the dress code for the course I'm playing. Loudmouth is a favorite of mine. my wife say's she has created a monster when it come to fun clothes and colors on the golf course. No stuffy "Bushwood C.C." stuff for me! T.

I've got some brightly colored shirts that I wear.
I don't really go for the loud pants, such as John Daly or Billy Horschel occasionally wear.
As far as fluorescent socks, I'll take a pass. A couple years ago, I recall seeing many celebrities wearing very bright socks that didn't match their clothes when they appeared on talk shows. It was a fad that didn't last but a few months.
If someone has a great game, one will watch their shots instead of their clothes.
For most of us though, I'd leave the bright socks/pants in the drawer, as it makes it look like an older guy is still trying to look like a teenager.
With shirts, any color will do, whether muted or bright.
