    Hey, everyone.

Did you know that the USGA and R&A are in the process of modernizing the Rules of Golf? They’ve introduced a new local rule to address accidental movement of the golf ball on the putting surface. The USGA and R&A intend to adopt this local rule for all championships and qualifiers beginning in 2017. Sounds like a positive step to me. What do you think?

Check out the following video from the USGA for more details.

Absolutely a good move. With the speed of the greens at the Majors I'm surprised more balls don't move on their own, especially if a green is sloped a bit.

Hey Rick -- long overdue imho. Golf has always been a game of "intent" and integrity. It's nice to see that they found a way to remedy the harm caused by this rule. It really should have been included in last years revised set of rules (2016).

Im very happy to see the change they made on the putting green! good on them!
A step in the right direction and hopefully they can keep finding ways to evolve!

While the USGA & R&A is at it how about getting rid of stroke and distance penalties. Rule simplification is another imperative. Being a lawyer should not be a requirement to understand the rules of golf. At the rate they're addressing these issues you're talking maybe in another couple of hundred years they may get it right.

Great Move for a Great Game with a Great Ball!!!
  9. Stroke and distance!! More than 1/2 the holes on my home course has very narrow fairways and o.b. and water. Just makes you a better player I guess, one bad shot can ruin a round..

This is a good start, there are a few more that need tweaking IMHO.
    CoolBreeze +1 on that.

Rick, I saw the new rule changes, I do think it is time.
  14. This is definitely a step in the right direction. If the USGA wants to increase play, and continue to grow the game, this is the direction they need to be moving.

Hey Rick V. Looks like a positive move to me as well. Might even go as far as calling it common sense.
    Play Well,

So, you ARE penalized if your ball moves in the fairway or rough, but NOT on the putting surface, so long as your event has adopted the right local rule.

They might be modernizing, but they definitely aren't simplifying.

When they banned the anchored long putter the USGA lost me. Some of the group I play with still anchor their putter and that is OK with me. This ruling for the recreational golfer just makes the game harder for those that have the yips. I had a topic earlier on whether there should be two sets of rules. One for the tournament/pro golfer and one for recreational golfers. It would not be that hard.
    Come on man !
