On Monday, June 26 at Congressional Country Club, The Titleist Tour Trailer opened its doors to begin Tour seeding and validation for the new prototype AP1, AP2, CB and MB irons (714 series) on the PGA Tour. And many eager Titleist Brand Ambassadors arrived exactly at 8 o'clock that Monday of AT&T National week to unbox their new sets.
But for Jason Bohn, 8 a.m. wasn’t early enough. “I was the first one here, buddy, I was ready,” said Bohn. “The alarm went off at 5:30 this morning, I was excited to get my new irons.”
In the weeks since, over 20 players on the PGA Tour and more than 70 across the worldwide professional tours have put a set of the new prototype irons in play, capped off by the ball striking display of Titleist Brand Ambassador Jason Dufner (prototype AP2 - 714 series) during his victory at the PGA Championship. In addition to Jason's major victory, the new prototype irons have also been trusted in victories on the PGA Tour (AP2/John Deere Classic), the Web.com Tour (AP2/News Sentinel Open) and the Champions Tour (MB/Boeing Classic).
The week before his historic PGA Championship win at Oak Hill, Jason spent time on the range and in practice rounds with Titleist Tour Rep Chris Tuten dialing in his new AP2 prototype irons (714 series). Jason put the new set in play for the first time that week at Firestone, where he finished T4. Between rain showers and practice sessions, Jason shared his feedback with Team Titleist.“The new 714 irons, I play the AP2’s, are really nice. The sole seems to be a little bit better, the bounce is configured a little bit differently. They feel really solid all around, even if you catch one a little thin or a little heavy, it’s just going through the turf really nice.”Team Titleist has continued to check in with other players throughout the summer and gather their feedback as the tour validation process moves forward. So, check out the video above to hear more from Titleist Brand Ambassadors Jason Dufner, Jason Bohn, Ben Curtis, John Merrick, Brett Rumford, Erik Compton, Ben Kohles, Brendan Steele, Cameron Tringale and Jimmy Walker. Make sure you stay tuned to Team Titleist to get the latest news and info as the new family of Titleist irons make their journey from tour prototype to production.
