Strategy for Tough Driving Holes

From Tom Patri On January 20, 2022
Very few golfers hit the ball absolutely straight off the tee. We all have a predominant shot shape. Some of us fade the ball a little (a ball that curves left-to-right for a right-handed player) and some... of us have a natural draw (a ball that curves right-to-left). Not sure what your natural shot shape is? All you have to do is step up to a narrow driving hole with trouble down one side of the hole or the other. You'll find out very soon which is more intimidating to you – trouble left or trouble right.

In this video, Titleist staff member Tom Patri talks about tough driving holes and what you can do to avoid big numbers when an entire side of the hole spells doom. It helps to be able to work the ball both ways, but even if you don't possess this skill, you can take the teeth out of difficult tee shots. Just remember the big takeaway from Tom – always aim away from trouble and curve your ball back towards trouble if necessary.
