Andy Jones 1st Hole in 1: 17 @ TPC Sawgrass

On my spring golf trip with friends George and John to TPC Sawgrass we set out to play our first round on Sunday March 4, 2018 under conditions described by our forecaddie as the fastest greens of the year and a 20-30 mph winds. Needless to say that along with it being our 1st round at the course and a Pete Dye design my play was pretty poor and frustrating to say the least. When we came to 16 I made a commitment to myself to finish well. Shot par on 16 and came to 17 with hopes of just hitting the green looking at an extreme front pin. When the ball landed safely on the green beyond the pin, it began to role slowly towards the pin. The caddie said it “has a chance.” Having seen my ball have a chance and never go in the hole, ever I watched with more realistic hopes of just 2 putting for par. It approaches the hole and then disappears. I always thought I would be “cool” if I ever got a hole in one...I was so not cool. I never thought after playing golf for 48 years without a hole in one that it would be at the 17th hole at Sawgrass with my dearest of friends. It still seems impossible. A moment I will remember always and a Titleist fan forever.
