I'm not sure that there's such a thing as an embarrassing hole in one. I haven't had one yet, but just this past Tuesday I got close enough to lip out and leave myself a tap in bird. We have a 210 slightly uphill par 3 at the course I usually play at (Westover, by the air base), and I'll usually hit driver there. As I tell my kids, who bomb it, "it doesn't matter how far you hit it, it matters knowing how far you hit it"....

Getting a hole in one with a driver should actually give you more pride in a way. It is the longest club in the bag making it that much difficult to control. You should also be proud of yourself for making the right call of pulling your driver and not letting your ego get the better of you.

One time my group got to a 210 yard par 3 dead into the wind. I was the only one to use driver, and also the only one to hit the green and not fall short. Holes are getting longer and there are some monstrous par 3's out there. Anyone who disagrees doesn't play enough golf.

Give yourself more credit and have pride in your decision making.

I USE MY DRIVER ON A 185 YARD PAR 3 ALL OF THE TIME. THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES.
