I am a 15 year old high schooler. My freshman year I played well, finishing in the top 10 twice, top 15 eight times in 11 tournaments, including a T-11 at state. However, I still feel that my game is not where is could be. I feel like I have more potential than I am showing. Even with practicing 24/7 I still find it hard to be constant and put together ra solid tournament.

    Hi Keaton,

Knowing we can do better next time is what keeps us all playing golf. It's normal. Try not to beat yourself up too much. Seems too common among players your age.

Regarding practicing 24/7, maybe take a pointer from body builders and rest. Some of the biggest developments happens when you take a step back for bit. You might just need to let your body and mind rejuvenate.

You may also want to look into your round statistics and analyze where you are losing strokes.

    Good luck,

    Spud

    Keaton,

I agree with Spud.  If you are playing at a level where you are posting at state then I would not leave improvement up to opinions.  The data will tell you exactly what your game is doing..whether it be FIR, GIR or 1 stroke percentage inside 5 feet, 10 feet, etc. Many useful tools out there to dissect and pareto your biggest inconsistencies! Start with the biggest one then knock them down from there.

Good luck with golf in your future! Seems to be extremely bright!

I'm a young golfer as well. Try playing or practicing with people who might intimidate you. Also, create a warmup routine that you keep the same every time you play. These things have elevated my game. Jack

I agree with this as well. If you are looking to win tournaments, you will want to practice in a similar mindset and recreate those high pressure situations.

    Keaton,

I am a 4-handicap 14 year old and I understand what you mean. In most tournaments, I shoot around even par or about two over par. I think that developing a solid and consistent pre-shot routine is the best way to get to the next level. I usually shoot about 74 in tournaments and I think that the best way to play well (and turn it around when not playing well) is to stay with your routine on every shot. Good luck in your upcoming tournaments!!!!!
