I have been luck enough to acquire tickets to Wednesday practice round for the Masters.  I am wondering what are some good public courses near Atlanta area worth playing and do the courses jack up their prices during masters week?  Also will I be able to bring my camera or phone in to practice round?  thanks for any info you can give me!

Good for you Marc!!!!   That's awesome..  I've never been but it's on my Bucket list.  My neighbor has been about 3 times (thanks to his suppliers) but during tournament rounds..  He's played a round or two but the supplier put him up and pay for everything so not sure on that..  However, i'm pretty sure i've read online that going to the practice round is best since you can bring a camera and do a little bit more..  The only problem is, if it rains and they close the course you're screwed..  No rain date if you know what i mean..

You can definitely find a lot of good information online though...

April can't come fast enough huh? :)

    Cheers

    Excellent Marc!

Try Golf Now.com as many excellent courses between Atlanta/Augusta including Reynolds Plantation.

While on course at ANGC, find a place near the 12th tee as short walks will provide excellent views of the green at 11, 12, and the tee shots on 13. Last time I was there during practice rounds, they allowed cameras but I'd check beforehand.

Hope you enjoy your time in God's Country;)

  4. Cameras are allowed Monday thru Wednesday. No cell phones however.

Marc, congrats on getting tickets.  You will have a great day.  Wednesday is a very cool day at ANGC because of the Par 3 tournament.

There are plenty of good courses in and around Atlanta.  About halfway between Atlanta and Augusta is Reynolds Plantation on Lake Oconee.  The courses there are phenomenal.  I love the Great Waters course where they recently had a Big Break Tournament for a special show.  The golf rates do get raised during Masters week the closer you get to Augusta.  You may be better off in Atlanta if you get concerned about rates.  If you have connections, Champions Retreat or Augusta Country Club are fantastic places in Augusta.  ACC shares a property line with ANGC and can be seen behind Amen Corner.

As far as your camera, you can definitely bring your camera during practice rounds.  Only during tournament rounds are cameras not allowed.  Also, do not even try to bring a phone in.  They will find it and you'll have to check it.  I would recommend you get there before the gates open at about 7am as you will be able to shop before they open the gates to the course.  You can then check your purchases or ship it home right next to the golf shop.  You will have an unbelievable time!

Thanks for all the good information.  I have looked in to Reynolds Plantation but their rates range from $190-$245 that week which would probably mean one less shirt I would be able to buy at the Masters lol!

My brother and I went in 2013.  Since the surrounding golf course prices were so high and I wanted as many souvenirs as I could get, (dropped over a grand in the pro shop!) we just went to a driving range a couple of times and still had a blast.  It was our first time to  to go to the Masters and the best experience we had was getting there early on an actual tournament day (we had tickets for all 4 days) and walking the course backwards.  Since no one was on the back 9, we started at hole 18 and we got to see the whole course up close.  It was great.  The other fun experience was buying a BBQ sandwich and taking it to the range.  We got to eat while we watched everyone warm up.  It is awesome and you will enjoy it!  There is no other place in the world like it!

The Masters is a great take, but one thing to keep in mind about Wednesday's Practice Round.  The main course closes during the afternoon - when the Par 3 tourney is going on.  Get there early and walk the main course.  You will not be able to do so in the afternoon...

Having said that, Augusta National is an amazing place.  The Par 3 course is in equal shape to the championship course.  It is immaculate.  You will have a great time, and bring your camera!

Camera, yes (but not on tournament days).  Phone, never.

  10. I grew up in Augusta and moved to metro Atlanta two years ago. All the courses in and around Augusta all jack up their prices. If you don't mind paying,  the River Golf Club is a nice course to play. It's in north Augusta, sc. Also Bartram Teail is a really nice course in Evans, Ga. I also have tickets to par 3 day this year as I was unlucky last year as I had Monday passes and was rained out last year.

You will enjoy this trip more than you can ever imagine! I was blessed last year and Augusta National far exceeded my expectations. I was able to take my camera and took 700 photos... just use good judgment when as you click away. A good place to take photos of players is on the practice putting green. We spent the pre-Masters weekend at Myrtle Beach... good rates and lots of great golf courses to choose from. I hope you have a great time and get superb weather!

Make sure you walk the course backwards. Otherwise you follow the same players all the way around. You can take your camera on practice rounds. There is no place like Augusta. Enjoy!

Ive played Ga Club many times, it's a great course. Never played UGA course but I've heard good things about it.

my home course is Lane Creek. It's not too far from Ga Club. I have to work Masters week, but if you are around on the weekend, let me know and maybe we can get together for a round..

You make a great choice to play the UGA course. Check out the staff bags in the snack bar to see all the names of UGA players now out on tour. Terry

Congratulations on the tickets, very jealous. So far I'm running at a 0% success rate over the past four years!
