Thinking of going on a 3 day golfcation with the wife for her bday. Been to Sawgrass in Jacksonville before and had a great time. Thinking Scottsdale or San Antonio...Any ideas?

  2. I've been to both. Think you would be a bit more pleased with Scottsdale, depending on when you go. The Boulders is a fantastic place to stay and play. Close to everything. Four Seasons, Fairmont Princess and/or Westin Kierland will all do the trick. Great golf and weather. Hope those ideas help.

Kiawah Island in Charleston, SC. Play golf in the daytime by the Ocean on four beautiful courses and eat in Charleston or Mt Pleasant at night in some of the greatest restaurants along the east coast.

There is also the Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms across the river from Charleston. They have two courses on the resort, but there are other courses in Mt Pleasant or the Ocean Course at Kiawah is a 45 minute drive.

If you go to Scottsdale, I recommend the Stadium course at TPC Scottsdale, where they recently played the Phoenix Open. You've seen on TV how rowdy the 16th is. Imagine what it's like without the 40,000+ spectators judging your tee shots.

I took my wife to PGA National Resort in Florida -- but she's not a golfer. She got to enjoy the spa and the pool, while I spent the day on the course. It was a great trip.

I would also suggest Phox/Scottsdale area. Many options to choose from that would fit any budget. I would recommend at least going to the range at the TPC course, but would spend my money elsewhere to pay. It was quite crowded when I was there and I didn't feel worth the $. That said, it is cool to watch the tourney every year and remember the experience and the shots you played.

RTJ Trail has resorts. From Mobile or Montgomery, you are close to some of their best courses. If your wife accommodates your golf game but is fine with a less challenging course, Great Southern in Gulfport is a Ross design that was on rotation after WWII. The challenge is the greens - shaped like postage stamps and about the same size. Ross Bridge, The Judge, and the Grand National Lake are all challenging.
