Would you bend a 54 or 56 to 55?

    Alright everyone... got a dlimena.

    I demoed the SM5's in a few different grinds (56.14 F, 56.10 S and 60.11 K).

    Currently have SM4:

    50.12 F

    56.11 M bent to 55.10

    60.10 M

The K Grind didn't outperform my M so the M is staying in (might move to SM5 later this year)

I didn't feel the F was better than my M (hit all sorts of shots including bunker shots).  BUT the S Grind was AMAZING!  Since I hit the 56.10 S I naturally want it but feel I should do 55 to keep my spacing.

I'm not sure if I should go 54 and bend to 55 (which gives me a little more bounce) or go the other way.  HELP!?

    Thanks

What do you mainly use the 55 for? If you use it for sand and green side stuff, the wider TX3 groves of the 56 may be better. If you use it for full shots from the fairway and want trajectory and spin/distance control, the narrower TX3 groves from the 54 may be it. I had a similar dilemma and went with the 54. good luck

    Thanks Stephen.

That's my dilemma!  I want to use it for 3/4-Full shots and around the green.

I could move to 54.10 S and change my 60 to a 58 but the bounce is only 8*.  I think I might go 54 because I'd rather have 11* vs. changing to 9* bounce.

if you want to hit full shots bend the 56 for shorter shots bend the 54

  5. Absolutely!

However, it depends on the amount of bounce you start with and do you want less or more....

For example, my 54.10 has ten degrees of bounce...if I need more then I could bend it weak thus going to 55 or 56 adding one or two degrees of bounce....however if you have 54.14 it has fourteen degrees of bounce...that may add too much bounce to the club and thus it may better to bend it strong such as 53 or 52 thus subtracting bounce from the club one or two degrees.   Generally, every one degree weak or strong you bend a wedge adds or subtracts one degree of bounce.

    Hope this helps!

I'm going back on the K.

Took it for one last test drive and It was really nice.  I think the grind takes a little to get used to (especially vs. the M).

Those who try the K.... Give it a little while before you make the call!

    I think i'm going 54.10 S and 58.11 K!

Are you keeping your 50?  I can't decide what to do.  My PW is 44* and I really don't want to carry 5 wedges.  I might just need to think about my PW as a 9I.

I use my 54-11 more for 25-50 yards and soft bunkers.  With 53-10, it eliminates the need for a gap wedge and I still have a club for longer bunker shots in soft sand.  The SM4 54-11 is a good all around wedge.

I played 55-12 between 2009-2012.  One was a DIY SW that I could do a lot with (used it till 2011) and the other was a SM c-c. The SM c-c was great for soft bunkers but not the greatest for turf shots.

    My current SM4 wedge setup:

    48-06, 54-11 both bent 1* strong.  The 54-11 has M grind.

58-06 L grind.  I went to this after a bit of winter rain made the sand in the practice bunkers like concrete.  I've been doing very well with it for the past 2 months now.

    64--07 T grind.

I also have a 60-10 bent 1* strong.  It is M grind.   This is 59-09.   It was great out of greenside bunkers with somewhat soft sand but I had to do a digging shot in hard sand or tight lies.

You could always leave the 54-10 stock.   56-10 bent to 55-09 would be better if you play a lot of shots with tight lies.
