  1. Hello Team Titleist,

seeking advice on low bounce wedge or grind options (standard or custom) please....

I am a left handed, 2 hcp, slider who picks the ball clean off the turf. I play the firm to very firm desert courses of the Arabian gulf.

I play CB's (fantastic irons) and love the PW, I can pick it perfectly clean each time with a slight cut, full shots or something finessed.  However struggle to play my wedges as well.  Have 200 series 52-08, 56-10, 60-12.  The 52-08 is ok, both of the others tend to sometimes bounce up into the ball a little or I catch it a little fat and land short. It just doesn't feel as clean off the turf as the PW and around the greens I prefer to wedge lofts but the PW has the best distance control due to the cleaner hit.

I want to replace with a new set of 52-56-60 wedges.  I like the look of the 60-04 L grind but what options are there for a lower bounced 52 and 56?  Seems to be just the same as I already have with 52-08 and 56-10 which never worked that well for me.

Any advice on options or grinds, standard or custom, would be much appreciated.  Being where I am and being left handed I basically get to try only after I have already bought them.

    Best Regards

    KD

Why not break tradition and get a 54-08?

I've always liked the M or L grind.  I have 54-11 bent to 53.  I had a 60-10 M grind for 2 years - I swapped it for 58-06 L grind when the bunkers got so hard after a rain that it was hard to hit.

    My setup is SM4 46-06 and 54-11 (bent to 53), and SM5 60-04 L grind.  I previously had 58-06 L grind and 64-07 T grind.

This is just me since I am pretty adept at working a pitching wedge (I played with a do it yourself set of irons from 2008-2011 and had a 47* and 55* PW and SW).  I also have a "shot maker" style of playing where I can switch from digging to sliding.

My two cents is your sand wedge should have some moderate bounce.  The courses here in San Diego vary from clay fairways to plush and from concrete to fluffy on bunkers.  The nice-ity of the 60-04 is I  can play a sand shot in either soft or hard sand.

A 54.10 bent to 52 will be 8 degrees of bounce, but the S grind will have more relief.  A 58.04 L or 58.07 S/M will be 2 or 5 degrees if bent to 56 degrees.  Check the vokey.com site to determine which grinds may be more suitable.  I thought I'd use an S grind, but on a fitting ended up with the M grind on a 56.10 bent to 55.9.  My other wedges are 48 and 52 F bent to 47/51.  Will you be using any of your wedges for bunkers, and how soft are those?

Hey KD, I had the same problem with my wedges for years until I did a custom fitting.  The Titleist representative recommended I order wedges bent 2 degrees stronger to effectively reduce the bounce so I play a 62 deg LW bent to 60 and a 56 deg SW bent to 54.  I find that it accomplished exactly what I was looking for and I hope it works for you too.  Good luck!
