M vs K grind?

  1. Can someone explain the difference between these 2 grinds?

I've got a 50 in the M grind, and I like it on full shots, but in the 56*, I have a hard time with it.  I'm ok with it on the full shots, but I struggle with the distance control around the greens.   I need something for around the greens on the tight lies.  I've been trying the miz MP T-5 the last few weeks, and I'm not a real fan of it.  Love it on full shots, but feel like I have no control around the greens.  I'm going to be getting another Vokey, but can't decide on the grind.  Which one of these grinds would be more forgiving on full shots, and off the tight lies?  What are the advantages, and disadvantages of both of these?

I'm more of the sweeper, so I'm thinking I need less bounce to keep from hitting it thin off the tight lies.

It sounds like you needs a 56.10S. The K is great out of the sand, but not the best for tight lies. If you're having trouble with the M grind, I'd give the S a shot.
  3. Thanks Stephen. How are the S grinds on full shots? They ok in most conditions? Also, how much affect would I have if I bent a 54 M grind to a 56 on the bounce? Is that going to take a little off it?

Bending the 54* to 56* would ADD approximately 2* of bounce.  If you are looking to take bounce off, you have to start with a higher loft and decrease it.

The S grinds are a great sole for full shots. If you're are going to use one sand wedge for all conditions, the S is the logical choice. To answer your other question; you would end up with a 56.10M, not a bad option if you really like that head. The groves are narrower and deeper on the 54 vs a standard 56 model. If this is your primary sand/rough club, id use the wider grove 56 model.

My Titleist rep told me that the S type Wedge is known as the "Stricker" model more for sweeping and not great for diggers.  I have the SM5 54 deg S grind I have a SM5 46 F grind bent to 47 deg as my PW and for I have the SM5 56.10 deg M grind bent to 55 deg and love it from the sand or around the greens.

    Hope that helps!!

  7. If you scroll down through wedge questions and find  topic asked by ryan titled sm4 vs. sm5 the titleist rep explains the difference specifically. as of now its on page 5 i believe.
