    I carry a 50 F, 54 S and a 58 S Vokeys. It was the perfect set up for me in the SM5s.

But for some reason I have struggled with the 58 since they changed the bounce in the SM5 from 7 degrees to 10 degrees in the SM 6 & SM 7 S grinds.

Why the change? - I thought it was best if you had a couple of different bounces in your wedge setup. But now if your an S grind guy, then you're stuck with the same bounce in both wedges. My wedge fitting says I'm an S guy, but I also like a low bounce wedge for tight fairways.

    Thoughts?

    John, couple options for you.

    1) try a 58.08 M grind
    2) try a 58.06 Low bounce K grind

I actually have a 60-12K grind but bent to 57 and it works everywhere. More like an old school sand wedge. Great out of soft sand and thick turf. To play out of hard pan lies, I just play the ball back. I agree with a 58-06K low bounce. If you look at a 60-12K vs a 60-08M, the latter's leading edge has more bounce. My lob wedge is an MD3 64/8. I carry a 50-08 bent to 49* for PW. My "9 iron" is a 42* RM21 and that is my scoring club (I get 125-130 on a full swing and about 85-90 on a pitch); first shot ever on the course was sticking it 3 feet from the pin on a 129 yd par 3 (later in the round a par save after hitting it 18" from the hole) and I used it on Torrey Pines South 3rd hole from the green tee.

You should try the M grind.

I had a similar issue but it was with my SM4 to a SM5 S Grind 54 & 58, I looked at my SM4 and it looked more like a M grind so I went to the M grind in the SM6 56. I have always liked the S grind but I seem to be playing better with the M

Thanks everyone! I was thinking the same as all of you that the 58 M, 8 degrees of bounce should do the trick to replace the SM5 58 7 degrees of bounce.

I've used M grind for ages (SM4 54-11M and 60-10M bent to 59 up until 2015). 62-08M is a good club. But lately the 60-12K bent to 57 has been doing a great job and is more like the old school sand wedges. 58-12K bent to 56 is another good one. 60-04L is deceptive in regards to bounce (very steep leading edge) and I found M grind is much better off hard pan lies. green) and hard sand. You can also try 60-08M and bend it to 58. I did that before.
