I am switching from Rocketbladez to AP1 in a week or so.  I'm getting a 5-LW. At what club should I switch to wedges from AP1 irons??  Is there some type of "rule"

AP1's go through W2, but I was curious if I should start at PW or GW on the Vokey's.

Is it simply personal preference and what my pocketbook will accommodate?

    Thanks!

    Rob,

It is a personal preference on whether to add a couple Vokey's or order the AP1 through the GW.  Players looking for more forgiveness in a gap wedge tend to stick with the AP1 and will transition to a Vokey for their sand wedge and/or lob wedge.

Cameron; Your suggestion to Rob is right on. I have kind of the same dilemma as Rob. I have the AP1 Gap Wedge, and last fall I bought a 50/08 Vokey. It's seems that the forgiveness of the AP1 is great for short shots into the green and better than the Vokey, (more forgiving) but the 50/08 Vokey seems better for long chip shots. What to do? What to do?

Part of the personal preference is based on how often you use a gap for full swings or for control with chips/short swings.  I have stock Vokeys and my PW is A-flex graphite.  I prefer the Vokey 48/06 with the wedge stiff shaft for partial swings.  If you have both, you may prefer the GW for harder/"summer" fairways and the Vokey for softer conditions.  Not unusuall to swap a GW and/or SW based on course conditions and/or the softness/dryness of the sand.

good luck with the new irons. I agree that the transition to Vokey wedges is personal preference. My choice would be to look at the lofts in the AP1 wedges vs. the Vokey and make sure that you aren't ending up with large gaps by using the AP1. steve

Thanks for the advise Don. I'll keep this in mind this spring when the ground is soft, then later in the summer when it gets harder.

Hey Rob - Congrats on the new sticks!  I bought the AP2 this past Summer and stuck with the W (50 degree) from the set.  I then bought a Vokey 56-14 and 60-10.  Specifically, this combination fills the yardage for me from 115, 105 and 85.  I went to a Titleist fitting session and confirmed the numbers so I didn't see the point in taking out a club from the set just to add a Vokey with the same loft.  Hope this helps-

Thanks for all of the feedback.  Ordered 5-w2 + Vokey 56

    Anxiously awaiting the arrival!
