If you are like me and have been a long time Titleist loyalist, you may have been tempted by the new clubs hitting the market ... wanting to take the plunge and spend a car payment on one for the new season, then you need to read this.
So I bit the bullet! Traded in a few clubs collecting dust in the garage in various golf bags and went and got fitted for the 915 D2 9.5* After an hour of intense diagnostics on the launch monitor, I decided on the Aldila Rogue Black 70 set to C3 ... this gave me the ultimate launch conditions with the most carry. I know those launch monitors are not the most accurate thing in the business at your local Golfsmith but I was getting around 2200 rpm spin at 98 mph, 12.5* launch, with total distance on average of 275-280 yards. I was impressed with the numbers but what I really liked was the consistency ... this thing is so accurate! It goes where you are aiming and that's it ... if you put the same swing on it, it goes and goes ... beautiful!
But I couldn't believe the monitor itself ... so out to the course I went on a cold blustery day. Temps around 40-45 in the sun ... so I knew the ball wasn't going to go very far. I was just looking for the consistency that I saw on the monitor. And it did not disappoint! Ended up with 12/14 fairways and the only 2 I didn't miss by much and were still in play just off in the rough. And one of them was the first hole, so I was still a little stiff.
But this thing is a beautiful piece of machinery! It looks so nice behind the ball I just want to hit drivers all day long! We all know that the beginning of the battle is confidence and aesthetics of the club ... well this has it all! I have the confidence to hit EVERY fairway, no matter the conditions. Even the guy I was playing with were like "man you are machine with that thing! You can't miss!" (Too bad the rest of my game was off!)
Bottom line is this is the best club to date by Titleist! I have no doubt! If you are on the fence about forking out the cash for it, just do what I did .... trade in some of those clubs that you aren't using and invest in this one!
