The 72nd City of Charleston Men's Amateur begins tomorrow and runs thru Sunday with 168 amateurs from the the tri-county shooting out for the right to be called the 2015 City Champion.  Of course some of us have dreams of maybe picking up a piece of crystal as a flight champions.  Final preparations are being made today in getting my Titleist bag bag prepared today with my personalized Titleist Prov1s, my reliable SC Newport 2 Notchback Select, Vokey wedges, AP2 irons, mixture of 913 and 915 hybrids, 913 fairway and my wonderful 915D2 big dog.   Bringing out the Titleist Pom Pom headcovers and my special edition SC putter headcover that resembles California Chrome from last year's releases.  TT tag attached and all clubs will be clean and shiny, Titleist towel in place, and my favorite Prov1/Prov1x ball marker that was given to me by our previous head pro finish up the preparation.  100% Titleist and FJ, head to toe.  Am a brand loyalist and very proud of that claim.  Now, the big obstacle, have not played in this tournament in close to ten years because I felt too old.  So, why at 68 and a half to take on this challenge.  There are no Senior Divisions.  We all play from the same tees.  Why not.  Langer did it at The Players.  Guess it is in the bloodline. Have the best equipment (arrows) and let's hope this indian can point them in the right direction.   Fairways and greens.  Thank you Titleist for giving me the tools......

     Thanks, Mike.....  :-)

Use my Titleist towel as my perspiration towel and will add it in the morning......second thought about gaming the SC special edition putter head cover and sticking with the one that came with the putter.....matches the bag better...........thought I would share my TT colors....

Why not? At 68 - isn't your day job playing golf? That's an advantage over the working stiffs trying to compete with you. Under-employed members are always in the running for the championship at my club.

You might say my only job is golf, and I have layed down some good solid low numbers.  Some under-employed club members are scratch players and those are the ones that are in contention in this tournament as well.  I took Jack's advice and moved up to have more fun and play from the senior tees and this tournament is being played from the championship tees.  It does make a difference, especially in the mid to longer irons as I found out today.  Two torn rotator cuffs and a bad lower back do make it tough at times.  Am having a good time, because I drew a great group.  All in their early 50s and none capable of shooting the 8 under to win the championship.  Spoke with my Assistant Pro after the round today about swing memory loss during a round and he said he had been there.  Drove the ball well, better than I expected from the longer tees and had a nice putting stroke, but the irons just were all over the place.  NOT  AP2s fault!  Could blame it on the wind, but not true.  But I guess tomorrow is another day and those personal faults cannot get any worse.  My pro's advice was to stop thinking and hit the ball.  They will flight everyone after tomorrow's round and who know's what Sunday will bring.

Not a lot to say about the lifeless round on the final day.  Worst tournament in all my years of playing competitive golf.  Threw away 17 strokes over par on three holes.  Yeah.  Do know what areas I need to work on and what types of tournament I need to be playing in.  At 68, and again, I know the Golden Bear made a very good point in move up and enjoy the game.  Golf should be about having fun and not stroking the ego.  It's not about how far you hit it off the tee, it's what you do with it on that second shot that counts.  Cheers and thanks.....the City Senior will be rolling around in the fall......chuck
