I have the Titleist 910D2 driver -- 10.5 loft -- Diamana Ilima 61 Stiff flex (Mid-HI) shaft.  My SS is 98-100.  I like the fact that i can hit a lot of fairways, however, the spin rate is in the range of 3200.  The launch monitor indicates that i can gain about 15 to 20 yards with a spin rate close to 2000.

I am a 5 handicap.  Given that i like my current shaft, but want a new driver with less spin rate, and slightly lower trajectory, what shafts should i be looking at with a new driver?  And what loft for my new driver?

    Thank you,

    WK

  2. I would consider being fitted since each driver and shaft combination act differently...IMHO

Chris hit it on the head.  See a qualified fitter and check out the different combinations on the monitor by a professional.  He got my spin 2000-2500.  Do yourself a favor.......cheers, Chuck

  4. Thank you -- i did myself the favor two weeks ago --- and have had two additional launch monitor sessions since then.

However, it is a matter of looking at different driver heads and numerous shaft options.  Therefore, it helps to know the parameters to narrow the field of options.  And, unfortunately, i have recently seen one of my single-digit handicapper friends fitted with the wrong shaft.

So, i believe it is best to educate oneself on the parameters and their "general" effect and then do some launch monitor and range work to further narrow and finalize the choice.

The 915 was the hottest face I have ever hit. It just jumped off the face. The Phenom Shafts in those are absolutely incredible. I still have the 913 with the Diamana but if the budget I have provided for room for a new driver the 915 would be the first purchase. Go to a demo day and get on the launch monitor.

The Diamana ilima has a softer tip section that will help produce more spin. You may want to try the D3 model. Titleist does offer the 915 D4 if spin is still an issue with D2 or D3 models. Out of the stock offerings, it appears the Diamana D+ would spin less, however coming from an ilima you may like the rogue black 60 (mid/high) in a 915 D3 9.5 head for reducing some spin. You need to get on a launch monitor and check the numbers.

I would definitely recommend getting tested with all combinations in order to get the best results.  I recently purchased a Titleist 915 Driver after hitting just about every combination of loft and shaft that the store had in stock.  I even hit the other brands, I know, please forgive me, so I'm glad that the Titeist 915 gave me the best results on the monitor.

Now that I have hit it on the course for the last two months, I cannot be happier.  If the driver doesn't perform, it's not the club, its the player.  The 915 has a solid feel with great results.

I'm also around a 5 handicap; good luck.

There have been a number of posts regarding shafts and heads and spin.  If I recall correctly heads create spin, not shafts.  Correct me if me I am wrong, TT staff.  Please go see a fitter and get the correct information and fit.....with all due respect....cz :-)
