I am really interested in the 716 AP1's when they come out.  I know they don't come out officially until October 23 but I was going to order them if I could have hit the different shafts.

My question is what kind of ball flight would I expect with the Kuro Kage graphite shafts in Stiff flex?  I currently game the Project X 5.5 Pxi shafts in my AP2's but was looking for a lighter shaft, as I am getting older and don't swing quite as fast anymore. (95-98 mph driver swing speed).  Is that still too fast to use the Kage shafts?  I am sure I will  like the forgiveness and playability of the AP1 irons vs having to be more spot on and consistent with the AP2's.  I don't get out to play as much as I would like anymore so I need all the forgiveness I can get these days.

I am not sure if I should stick with steel in the XP 90 TT shafts or the Project X.  I have loved the Project X line over the years , I have had them in the last 2 sets of irons I have owned.  But thought it might be time for a change and be easier on the body.  Will the torque be too much in the Kuro Kage (3.5*) vs the XP 90 (2.0*)?

I guess the only way to know for sure is to hit them on a simulator or range.

    Thanks for any insight.

Want to give the AP1s a try as well, but as I get older I have become more patient.  I went to see my fitter last week and he said they should be in soon for pre-orders.  I currently am playing 714 AP2s but am considering changing.  Will do a comparison and see what my fitter recommends.  Going to check out the KBS shafts with these for kicks.  Am currently play XP95 stiffs.

The KK 85 and 105 are custom but no upcharge over the 65. You might want to check with your fitter to have the 85 available to compare to the XP 90. In the R flex for me, the KK 85 nudged out the XP on dispersion with a 6I, down through the wedges they were a draw. The 65 was spinning too much in R flex.

Like Don O, I am playing the KK 85 gram shafts. First set of graphite shafts for me (I previously played Project X 5.5s) and I am very happy with them. I can't remember for sure but I believe they have a bit less torque than the KK 65s. I'd suggest you give them a shot. Thanks. J.A.C.

Awesome guys thanks.  I will take a look at both the 65 & 85 Kage shafts ... hopefully the fitter I go to will have all the selections so I can make an informed decision.  I love the feel of the forged AP2's and really don't want to go away from them but I don't think my game (or lack there of) can handle them anymore.  I am definitely not in my 20's anymore so I need to look for every advantage.

Plus it will make my Dad jealous when I show up with some AP1's in graphite.  He never thought I would ever be able to switch to graphite but with the technology out there, the graphite shafts these days aren't quite as whippy as they used to be ... a lot less torque.  Maybe I might be able to get my old draw back that I used to have years ago!  One can only hope.

Let me know when you try the KK shafts or whatever you try with the AP1's. I am in the same boat as you and need to make a change from steel shafts. Really want to start out the 2016 golf season with a new set of 2016 AP1's. Thanks.
