Thinking I may need to go the AP1's for 2016. Currently using the AP2's (714) and have lost about 10 yards on each club. Ball flight is also lower also. Swing speed varies between 85-87. Thinking of trying graphite. Any ideas? Will finish out this year with my current set but will be looking at the new 716's for 2016 season. I am from Midwest and season is rapidly coming to a close svn though we had a great week of weather last week. Hit the cally XR's with graphite shafts at PGA Superstore and they felt real good. They had the UST Mamiya Recoil shafts. I am wondering what Titleist has that is comparable as I am a Titleist diehard and will only play them.

You'll want to try the Kuro Kage shafts in the new AP1s.  The (slightly) stronger lofts will help you regain that distance, along with the light weight and high-launch characteristics.

If you decide to stay with steel shafts, look at the Nippon NS Pro 950GH.  They will still be lighter weight, and have a similar high-launch/high ball flight that a graphite shaft offers.

    Good luck!

I did not mention that I am a senior golfer. A 12 handicap with an average of 230-240 yards off the tee. Maybe someone from Titleist will drop in and add a comment. Thanks.

Senior, here as well.  Turned 69 in September.  Play 714 AP2s with XP95 stiff steel shafts.  Club head speed around 93 and maybe a few yards longer off the tee.  On a good day can still hit my 7 iron from the 150.   I came to conclusion that my age is catching up with me had the lofts changed on my irons to meet those on the AP1s, because I like the feel of the forged irons.  You have a more bend flexibility with forged irons.  Of course I took them to my fitter and let him do it on a computerized machine. Also, do not know old you clubs are and maybe your lofts are off.  Your should have your lofts checked periodically to check the numbers.   Gives me the feeling that I can still hit my irons the number I want, and of course forgetting they have been juiced to meet my aging process.   It's a mental and a feel good thing.  LOL.

OK, going to get fitted at Titleist Fitting Center at Cantigny on Tuesday after playing what I think may be my last round for the year. Not going to be bull headed this year as I was last year when I wanted the AP2's vs. this year. I will go by the results of the testing of clubs. I will look at my results and base my decision on what is best for my game on that. Probably going to be my last set as I am 63 with a 12 handicap. Happy with my game results this year as I recently retired and was able to play a lot more than normal. Scores are not indicative but I feel I made progress. Just would really like to give the graphite shafts a good run for their money if you know what I mean. Thanks for your feedback on the the KK. It was helpful.

Since you're going to a fitting center, they will have the KK in both 65 and 85 g shafts. In the 712 I found the GD 65 too light, same for the KK 65 in the 714, and went with the 85 in the 714. For me it was close between the 950 and the KK. I used the 950 in my Vokey wedges. Have fun going through the whole cart!
  7. Hello John, I started this year with AP2 714, and like you my yardage was down compare to my TM. The loft are not the same, but even that i was not hitting them well, mostly because of my swing path. I worked on it and a few month later the yardage was no more an issue. Everything fixed and with more accuracy and feeling than my TM I become during this summer an happy titleist fan. About graphite shaft on iron. Because of my elbow issue i decided to go on graphite, and it is the best decision i did. I am 53, driver ss around 92-95. So if you go on graphite try a few, and don't forget the Steelfiber from aerotech(a mix of grahite and steel, Kuchar and Snedeker play them) Like you John i lived up north (way up in Canada, season still have maybe 10 days to go) and last year before buying my AP2 i was testing cally with UST recoil, found a high ball flight and did'nt really like them, but for the elbow it was great. So i looked at the UST web site, found the Recoil-prototype, read a lot of reviews and decide to put them on my AP2 - Recoil Prototype 95 F4 Really happy with them, but if Titleist had the Steelfiber i70 or i80 available i would choose them for one reason...less dispersion Don't get me wrong, i really love my prototype-95 F4. Have a nice shopping time on iron shaft, take your time, and like everybody wrote on this site...FITTING is the key

I'm 58 and I've gone through the same thing with swing speed. I play an offset irons now but I've been looking and preparing to upgrade to an AP2- I've been hitting it each time I get a chance for months now and I liked them. The local fitter the other day had me try the CB and it was great! I've now been back a handful of times to hit the CB, and it's just as good each time- furthermore, the misses aren't that bad. The fitter, is recommending an MB/CB combination for me. I'm a little nervous but he said, the numbers are there to support it and the ball doesn't lie out at the range. It's time to move on from the training clubs (even though it's late in my years). So don't give up... Titleist has a club that you can honestly play.

I was able to go through a full bag fitting at Oceanside in January.  As a 14 handicap and 57 years of age, I made the transition from 714 AP2 to AP1 to get a bit more forgiveness and distance.  But I also went from Project X steel shafts (5.5) to Kuro Kage 85 gram shafts in a regular flex.  I can't be more happy.  They are long, consistent, and soften the effects of poor contact for my aging elbows and shoulders.

69 years old and found the same thing after operation on both shoulders, not ordered AP1 with KuroKage 65 regular shaft felt great at fitting, so ready to play.

Have used ap1 for a year now and are very forgiving on off centre hits, nice high launch and plenty of feel, would strongly recommend them

Well, I pulled the trigger and went with the AP1's in graphite. Loved the ball flight and the looks. Should get them next week hopefully and maybe if we get the weather we are having this week in the Midwest I will get to hit them outside before the snow flies. Sure...as soon as I go to these I am playing the best golf of the year now, but I am really looking forward to hitting these new clubs. By far and away, Titleist makes the best irons and woods on the market. Thanks for making improvements every year!
