I have recently purchased a new set of 716 Ap1's and have used them on two rounds only. I have protected the heads with covers between shots and am amazed at how marked the clubs have become after such a short time. There are a number of small scratches that indicate where the ball was struck, which I accept would be normal, but what I am very disappointed with is the burnish marks on the club faces.

I have returned the clubs to the manufacturer but have been told '.....we cannot find an original manufacturing or material defect'.

Has anyone else found this to be a problem? I have previously used cally and png irons and these clubs have looked in better condition after several years of use rather than the two days I have used the Titleist irons.

I would add that this has not detracted from the very good performance of the AP1's.

I too have 716 ap1s. I also noticed after one round two practices sessions bottoms also marked more than I expected.when I posted no one would reply and I also put protective covers on irons which makes a lot of golfers on here not happy but very costly to buy and I love titleist products.i don't have an answer either?

    Hey guys,

I covered my 714 AP1s. Wife bought them at the time and I thought I'd never use them. But I gave them a try and built it into my shot routine. (kinda glad I did..I got top dollar for the trade in towards my 716 AP1s!!)

Anyway, my guess is the 716s are chromed. Softer and is going to mark. 2nd, About every set of club I ever owned had marks on the bottoms that told the world I was a fader of the golf ball. Lastly, Titleist makes the best equipment on the planet and my experience with their customer service has been awesome! They will stand behind their products.

Just a thought, practicing off of nylon mats is hard on clubs.

For myself I will have wait for a while as my clubs arrived along with a big snowstorm... :--(

     Happy Holidays!

Hi Paul,  As you are in the UK, we followed up with the UK office.  The area in question on your club appeared to have been in contact with perhaps the top of the bag?  This area can be repolished, but, it will wear again because it is a polish.

The new 716 AP1 irons have an updated, high polished sole and a satin polish hosel/topline. They are not chromed so the finish can wear, but can be polished.

As you have noted, the finish may wear, but the performance is great :)

    Hi Cathi

    Thanks for reply.

The burnish marks are on the club faces so It can't be contact with the top of the bag as I had head covers on each club as soon as I purchased them.

I have since polished the faces and it hasn't removed the burnish marks but has 'dulled' the marks somewhat.

I have now accepted that the clubs will not appear to be in pristine condition.

Again thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

Hi Paul,  The UK took pictures of the faces, and it is difficult to say what the blackish marks actually were as a picture may not do it justice.  We forwarded it to our QA in the US and he suggested that you may want to try something like acetone?  You don't want to use anything abrasive.

    Thanks again Cathi.

I will try an acetone based cleaning product and if successful will post a comment.

I'm with Vurich. In 2 years the 718's will be in my bag. My Vokey SM5 54* looks like it was tied to my rear bumper. Hurry up SM6's
  9. What should we use to polish the 716 AP1s?
  10. Hi mate ,
Is it safe to polish the face of the Ap1 716 irons ..
I used autosol to polish around the head .. and toe and heel .. after Iv had them for a couple months .. cos they had a few marks
They came up great .. but was bit scared to polish the face to try remove some harsh strike marks ..

Haven't noticed this in my 716 line, Paul.  But I plan to use these clubs to death so I can get the 718 line in two years!  Keep hitting them well!

  12. If you play in an area with a lot of sand in the soil the sand will get in between your ball and club and cause scratches on the face. It is only cosmetic and I believe it gives the clubs a little bit of character, shiny new clubs may appear as if you don't get out much.

    Paul,

Did they ever get back to you regarding the tiny scratches on the faces that indicates where the ball was struck. I also bought some 716 AP1's and they're doing the same thing. Do the scratches get worse? Rust? I emailed the customer support and I'm still awaiting a response. I'm not worried if the scratches are normal but just want to make sure.

    Thanks!
    Tony
