  1. I'm a 4 handicap and struggle with ball flight. Not that I can hit it high it just takes a lot and sometimes doesn't always work. I currently hit 690 MB and I'm switching to AP2 714 and was wondering if I soft step the irons will it make the shaft weaker? If I put x100 shaft and had them soft stepped what would that make them .

  2. Yes, it will make the shaft 1/3 of a flex weaker approximately...if you hard step them the same true on the stiffness side. I have done this with my DG X100 for years and love the outcome.

My AP2's were fit std length/lie, 1 degree weak, with Project X 6.0's soft-stepped 1. I've found it makes them a touch more forgiving.
  4. Pulled up an old chart I use for frequency fitting with shaft flex and thought I would share you details. DG X100 straight is 6.8 FCM (KBS Stour S+ Hard Stepped once is same), DG X100 soft stepped once is 6.5 FCM (PX 6.0 is the same straight), and DG X100 soft stepped twice is 6.2 FCM (KBS C-Taper Stiff is same straight). DG S300 straight is 5.8 FCM for what is worth...and PX 6.5 straight is 7.0 FCM.

    Hope this helps!

Great info Chris - been thinking of moving back to DG shafts and fall between X/ Stiff flex and wondered if soft stepping might be the route to go down.
