Hi everyone, I would like to know if a 2 iron would be good for me. I find that my hybrid right now doesn't preform in a good standard as they tend to go left, but my 4 iron goes straight. And I seem to play courses where I'm laying up off the tee, and in some cases some holes pinch in so tight where you layup with a club that only needs to go 200-215 yards. Just some backround information about my game. My handicap is a 5.8 ( to be on July 1st ). I currently have the following gaps:

5 iron - 24 Degrees - 180 4 iron - 21 Degrees - 190 Hybrid - 19 Degrees - ( 200-205 ) 3 wood - 15 Degrees - 225 My hybrid tends to scare me because I always seem to hit it left, so I end up not playing smart at times and making mistakes, which cost me strokes. At this point in time I believe it is a shaft issue, since all my irons and woods are stiff, and this hybrid is a regular flex. Leave a comment below if a hybrid would be best for me, or a 2 iron possibly.

    Thanks, Cameron

    Hey Cam,

I too have struggled with hybrids. It's the only club I have that I struggle with a hook. I don't think it is a shaft issues so much as the hybrids themselves. I believe that club designers are locating weight internal to the clubhead so that the club turns over more easily. It's like years ago when we use to add lead tape to a club heel to get the club to promote a draw. I suspect club manufacters/designers do this as 80% of golfers struggle with the dreaded slice. Looking at your situation, you show good distance with your 5 iron and 3 wood. I would suggest to you that you might want to look at something like either a 3 or 4 iron 716 T-MB to replace your hybrid. These clubs are awesome. They have a good bit of tungsten in the sole which will help get the ball up easy enough and the added weight really adds distance to the club. I have a set of 716 AP1s which also are designed similarly to the 716 T-MB. These clubs are great off the fairways, from the rough, and also from the tee box too. You got to try these clubs. You will be awed and you'll be kicking yourself for not making the switch earlier. These clubs are that good.

    Best Wishes,

    Hi Cam,

DV is right -- have a good look at the Titleist T-MB's. Wonderful clubs. You could explore the 2-Iron and 3-iron options available to you. It seems to me that it is worth exploring, so perhaps a good fitter with the various trackman, etc. for feedback and get yourself dialled in!

Let us know what you decide to do!
  4. Try a 5 wood. They are not like the old ones, the spin rates are so much lower you don't get the ballooning flight. It looks like it should fit your gapping nicely too. The TMB irons go like a rocket but they are hard to shape shots with.

I had the same problem with my hybrid even with the correct shaft. I now have a 20 degree 3 iron AP2 and 5 wood which is a nice gap.

Just a thought, it's what ever works best for you.

    Happy hunting!

I would continue to try out woods. 2 iron just screams butter knife to me, but that is just my opinion. More over, go to a great fitter and they will straighten you out.

You want the hybrid shaft to match your iron shaft, or very similar. If you opt for a 2-iron, get the cavity back. I carry a 2-iron (not sure why....lol), and it's my "get it in play" on the tight/short holes. Off the deck, it's a tough club to hit, and useless in the rough.....

Hello!!!! I am glad to have an opportunity to post on this forum! I think that safety is the main thing in sport - in cycling and in golf. Sp I recommend to buy a golf bag from the site - [url=https://golferexpert.com/best-golf-drivers-for-beginners/]golferexpert.com/.../url] - in which therte is a possibility to pack your safety things!

I've never tried a hybrid. Too old school I suppose. I've always had a 2 iron in my set and feel pretty confident when using it off the tee. As for fairway shots, I mostly pick and choose my 2 iron depending on the lie, wind, and shape needed. I honestly never pay too much attention to club gapping. Learning how to hit knockdown shots with different grip positions for me is key . Having started playing this game with a "Starter" set of 3,5,7,9 irons, you learn to hit different shots with the tools you have. A 150 yd shot can be hit with 3 different clubs for me. A full swing 8 iron, a knock down 7 iron, or a shorter grip 6 iron depending on the lie and wind strength and direction.

    I'm with Deno...

I love my 2 iron. I throw my bladed 1 iron in the bag from time to time as well. I call it the crowd pleaser haha.

I say try everything and see what performs best for you. I agree with the T MB idea, too.

I go 16.5 fw, 21 deg H2, then 5 iron, works for me. I carry 13 clubs, for the longest time, I kept trying to fill a spot, that I figured out I don't need. Do you need the additional iron? What will it primarily be used for? I used to love 2 irons, but at my age, I just cannot elevate them anymore.
