818H vs. 816H and 917F vs. 915F

Doug E

For anyone who has moved from the previous versions (816/915) to the newest (818/917), what differences have you noticed, positive or negative? I have hit both new versions myself, and did see and feel some obvious differences, but am interested to hear what others may have noticed. I had an 816H, but ordered an 818H which should be in my hands next week. I may pick up a 917F to replace my 915F 3W too. (Or maybe I'll wait for the 919F, which should be out soon, I think.)

Doug, I have two 917F's, a 3 wood and 5 wood that replaced 915F's. The best thing about them is the rubber cover over the channel on the bottom of the club. I no longer have to scrape out grass and mud from the bottom of the club after every shot. They also feel and sound a bit more solid.

More consistency on off center strikes, better launch and hotter faces. I think the 917 fairway wood is the best in the business and not sure who they can improve on it!

Unfortunately I'm not able to give you any feedback regarding the 917 as I did not own a previous Titleist version. I can say that the 917 (both driver and 3 wood) was far superior to what I had been using (cally). As for the hybrid, I currently have an 816 and received an 818 for Christmas but have been unable to play it as of yet due to the weather in the Midwest.

I upgraded from the 816 to 818 solely on moving to a different shaft (S+ R to M+ S). Feel and performance seemed comparable (both work great). LH, I have a 915 7W (no 917 option) and a 5W 917. The 917 is the first 3/4/5 W I've hit off the deck (formerly only my long par 3 club) with success. Having the movable weight has been a plus. I'm waiting for the 919 woods to review gaps and adjust clubs accordingly as I've been making substantial swing changes. ...I do like that the 917 doesn't have the open slot to be cleaned like the 915 H/F/D clubs had.

I'm also interested in thoughts of guys who went from 915H to 818H1 too.

I did go from the 915FD to 917F3. I prefer the feel of the 915FD, but the customization of the 917F3 with CG weight is awesome, and like mentioned above the covered slot on the bottom is nice and better than the 915FD
