I'm looking for new irons and leaning heavily toward AP2. I'm also a long iron over hybrid player though so I am thinking about 3 and perhaps 4 irons in AP3. I know lofts are different so is it possible to blend the sets like this or will there be too much gap between the transition? Going to fit to confirm, of course, but wondering if anyone has blended the AP2 and AP3?

This would be possible you can ofcourse blend them, by increasing or decreasing the loft on either of the two. Always get a gap test when you recieve your gaming irons and have them optimized at that moment.

This video reviews ap1/2/3 and talks about blending ap1 4i/5i into a set of ap3 so I’d say definitely possible...

Yes, I have 4i AP3 and 5-Pw in AP2. I had the 4i bent 1 deg weak to fit in. Your fitter should be able to figure out what works best for you

I haven't done it personally. but if you went with 6-9 iron in the AP2's, you could go 3-5 iron in the AP3's. You might want to bend the 5 iron a degree weak and maybe the 3 iron a degree strong. that would give you a nice 4 degree gapping in all your clubs. I didn't include the PW in the AP2 because I prefer vokey wedges instead, in case you were wondering. :)

Give the T-MBs a look as well. I am playing 718 AP2 PW - 5 Iron and 718 T-MB 4 iron and this gives me good gapping. Absolutely loves these irons!.
  7. I've also got 4&5 TMB 6-PW Ap2.

    Great combo for me anyway.

I played AP2's since they were introduced and had dropped the 3-4 for hybrids UNTIL buying a new set of AP3's with a 4 iron. Because it was in the set I purchased it seemed mandatory I give it a good test run on the range and course. BAM!! I've nailed that 4, and the 5, virtually every time I've swung it (used 915 4 hybrid for sale). In my opinion, you are certainly on the right track blending a set. The wider sole, longer blade makes the long irons easier to hit and hit hard. Try them in a shop before making the move...doubt you will find a better mix of clubs!

Believe you will find a manageable gap from the 5 to the 4 but added distance isn't a hurt when you need it (3* stronger I believe than AP2's).

Right there with Jason R & RKelly, I find the TMBs (2,3,4) absolutely awesome clubs combined with AP2s (5 thru 9). When hit crisply there really aren’t many better.
