About to order the 718 AP1. I'm curious about the stock shaft (AMT Red). I am a fan of the concept of the technology in these shafts, but I see that they are listed as a high launch shaft. Does the AMT technology help keep the ball down some in the shorter irons? I'm fine with the higher ball flight in the mid and long irons, but would like to keep the ball from ballooning on the short irons.... any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You can work with a pro shop to custom order. The AMT Black and the White are increasingly lower launch shafts. All shafts Titlist carries can be ordered in any head. I have the Red in the AP3 that the black is the stock offering.

Hi, In the sense that more weight lowers the ball flight, yes, the shorter irons have the heaviest shaft, but the overall ball flight of the AMT Red is high. If you like the feel of the AMT Red, you may want to try out the AMT Black if you want a slightly lower ball flight. It weighs about 10 grams more in the shorter irons and progresses slightly lighter in each shaft and in the 4 iron weighs the same as the AMT Red. In the AMT Red, each shaft from the GW to the 7 iron weighs less and then the 4 through 7 iron weigh 95 grams.

Hey Lux, before you go with a stock option, suggest you do a fitting at a Titleist Thursday. I thought i was going AP1 and AMT Red steel. After my fitting we went T-MB with Tensei Red AMC graphite and its been a great fit for me. No matter what you do, hope you enjoy your Titleist irons.
  5. Only thing I would add to Cathi's response is looking at your OP, it seems unclear if you have been, or are going to get, fitted for your clubs. If you have been, I'm surprised your fitter didn't run you lower launching shafts on your shorter irons as mine did. If you are thinking of not being fitted, I'd just like to strongly encourage you to do so; it will make your AP1s truly unique to your desires, swing and comfort levels. I had never been fitted for clubs before purchasing my AP1s and wouldn't think of buying any club without being fitted.
