I am old school so I still hit a 3-iron. But my new AP1's doesn't offer a 3-iron so I am still gaming my 716 AP1 3-iron. Does anyone know if there are plans for a release of a 718 AP1 3-iron? See I'm also OCD like them all matching.

Your "old school" 3i was 21 degrees, which is what your 4i is now so you really already have it. If you just want another iron with a lower loft, the AP3 3i is 19 degrees and really more like a 2i. You could also look at the TMBs, but the AP3 is more in line with the AP1.

    Hope this helps!

With the 4 iron dropping from 22 degrees to now 21 degrees, they would have to make the new 3 iron at 18 degrees. I just don't think they have the demand to make it feasible to manufacture AP1 3 irons anymore. So many people prefer a hybrid or the T-MB option for a gap between the fairway wood and 4 iron or two fairway woods without any hybrid. I'm OCD too so i just justify the difference as a different category, like wedges and putters.

Hi Dwayne, There are no plans to release a 178 AP1 3 iron, but the loft of the 718 AP1 4 iron is 21° so a 3 iron would have required loft in the neighborhood of 17-18° which is closer to an old 1 iron loft.

And we all know what Lee Trevino said about raising up a 1 Iron in a thunderstorm. You will be safe from lightning... even God can't hit a 1 iron. :)

Thanks Cathi, I have my old 716 AP1 bent to 18* guess I will have to get a 17* hybrid and put the 716 3-iron back in my backup bag with his mates. Since my OCD is killing me with it not matching my 718's. LOL I don't know how these guys plsy mixed bags it would drive me nuts.

I just got the 718 tmb 2I, upgrading from a 712U 2 iron and the distance is unreal. Same swing speeds are yielding +10-15 yards with the 718 and a noticeable increase in ball speed. Can’t recommend those clubs enough.
