  1. A question to Cathi,Titleist club concierge.

I was fitted last year for a set of ap2 irons at 1 degree up and half an inch longer shaft. Was an excellent fit.

    Am about to order 913 F fairways (15 and 19 degree) + 913 H hybrid (21 degrees).

From my inernet research it seems that fairway shaft length is not such an important issue but was wandering before

I order , would it be sensible to order these clubs with a half inch longer shaft as in my iron set or would standard length be ok.

My pro feels that standard length is ok as extra length makes the shaft more whippy and less easy to control.

was hoping for your opinion on this before i order.

You can always play the fairways and hybrids more upright.   Go with what your pro says.   I play irons that are -1/2" and 1/2* upright (the 54 is .75* upright and the 60 and 64 are 1* upright).    My 910F 19* is 41" length and I play it on the A3 setting.   My 910H 27* is 38.5" and I play it on the A2 setting.   My 9 wood is 41" length.   I have an upright swing.

My 910F is A flex but, because it is 1" shorter than stock, the feel is not so whippy.  9 wood thru PW are all regular flex and my SM4s use wedge flex.

My clubs have lighter grips on them to compensate for the loss of swingweight (driver and 19F use Winn Lite Dri Tac, the hybrids and the 7-PW use Winn Excel RF).  All my wedges have standard Titleist grips on them.

With the graphite shafts in fairways playing 1/2" longer than older model steel shafts, you would gain the correct length, and the added length also adds 1 degree upright to the lie angles. If you have the opportunity to try them, or get fit, that would be your best choice to make a correct decision.

Your pro is right - in general, we don't usually go longer on the fairways, or the driver, even though the irons are 1/2" overlength.  The hybrid is your choice.  A 21° is 40" and it is usually a replacement for a standard 3 iron which is 39".  You can make that hybrid 1/2" longer if you would like or go standard.  Since your pro has seen you hit and is familiar with your game, I would go with his/her recommendation.

  5. Dear Cathi,

Thankyou for your prompt and informative reply.

Will send my order in tomorrow.Going with standard and as for the hybrid i feel also standard as my previous hybrid is also

    standard and definately feels comfortable.

A little extra length here may of course give a little extra distance but i favour accuracy and shot shaping so i guess standard length hybrid will be fine.

It´s a real advantage having questions answered personally from Titleist pros in this manner and so helpfull during the final

    process of ordering new equipment.

    An excellent and appreciated service.

    Sincerely

    Ian

As always it is not really possible to tell you what fits you here on line, but I will give you some direction based on many years of conducting fittings. And, typical of most information you find on line it is not correct to say fairway shaft length is not important.
First of all a standard length 4 hybrid is usually about 1/2 -3/4" longer than a 4 iron.  And corresponding lofted fairway metals are longer than hybrids.  So, just because you might have been fitted longer with an iron DOES NOT  mean you would need longer hybrids or fairways.  ( concerning fairway metals I see a lot of players needing shorter length fairways -- more solid and consistent hits )
The ONLY way to properly and correctly determine is try different length of shafts. maybe apply some impact tape to the face and see how consistent your impact marks are to center.  An inch or or so extra length will only result in less than 5 yards increased carry     IF     you can still hit it on center. ( that's a BIG if -- ha ha )  Whereas off-center hits from playing with a too long shaft cost you a lot more....
Find a good fitter with length options, hit out doors off of grass, use a LM , use Pro V 1 golf balls..... the only way.
