Looking for suggestions and help. In spring 2012 was fitted by the Titleist rep for a full bag. 910 D2 driver, 910 3 & 5 wood, 910 Hybrid. The shafts for these were all the made for Titleist versions.  Ilima 61 (driver), Kai’li 65 (3&5wd), Kai’li 80 (Hybrid). All were fitted as stiff flex. Here is the situation.  I am at best an average to below average Fairway and Hybrid player from the turf.  Extremely inconsistent ball striker with these clubs, however, when I am hitting them well I hit what I feel is a rather low line drive type ball. Even when I get one on the screws they are a line drive.  I have played with the adjustments with no distinct improvements. So now I am considering a shaft change to find something that will launch higher than what I’ve got. Now I realize that my problem is 70-80% (or more) the operator but it’s the remaining 20-30% I want to fix. I have started to research shafts, using the Golfworks and Golfsmith catalogs, online fitting tools and reading.   I need help in finding someone near me who can work with me on this. (I live on Cape Cod) Can I get help from Titleist? I need advice on sorting through the myriad of shafts.  To be honest, I’m not looking to break the bank on this and have been leaning towards shafts from UST and the Graphite Design YS6, they seem to have several shafts that fit my needs and are cost effective. I need to  find my swing speed, launch etc. as after two years who knows what changes have occurred, I was fitted when I was a fader, last season I worked myself into a draw with shots off the tee and most iron shots, The fairways and hybrid still tend to fade though except as I said off the tee. As a side note, I had a 905 with an R flex YS6 shaft that I got off the rack that I hit probably my longest drive ever, the problem was I never felt I had great control with it. Looking forward to some input.

    Hi Dustin,

I had those same "made for" shafts in my 910's and didn't like them at all, I don't think anyone did. I was hitting the same line drive type of shots that you mentioned. So after seeing a Certified Fitter, I ordered a UST Axivcore Black from my local pro shop for my driver and Boom! I was hitting the best drives that I had hit in a while. Excellent flight and control. I immediately ordered the UST Axivcore  for my fairways too.

This is what works for me. You should visit a Titleist Certified Fitter to find out what works best for you.

Thanks Chris, when I used the UST online swingfit the AXIVCore black was one of the options it gave me.

For cost saving - you can at least try the Bassara W by Titleist.  The direct replacement to the Kali would be the S+, so that won't change much.  The GD G-series 50 or 60 or the Tour AD DI-5 are other options, but I won't speak to the cost.

Besides a fitting at Manchester (Mecca - east coast for Titleist), there are Advanced Fitting Centers in Mass to look up.  Once the cost is more than 60-70 a shaft, it will pay for a fitting to find THE shaft.

In some cases, it may be extremely cost effective to get a 913 with one of the standard shafts.  You might want to consider dropping the 3W and 5W and just carry a new 4W (17 degree) with a shaft that sings to you.  Depending on how you use the wood on a course, you can set the loft up or down for length.

Choking down, you can try the 910D Ilana on the 910 F's, just to see how much a higher lofting shaft might help.  I have an Ilana on my 910 7W and a Bassara on a 913 F 15 set to 16.5.

Don, That's an interesting idea of swapping the Ilima shaft out of my driver to see if it makes a difference, will have to try it

Hi Dustin,  Not sure if you were fit at a fitting day when you were fit or went through an actual fitting?  But, either way, it sounds like your swing has changed quite a bit.  If you would like a good fitter in your area, we would recommend talking to Mark or Darren over at Pine Oaks GC - their number is 508.238.2320

Thanks Cathi, I was fitted by our area rep. He backed his van up at our range set up his monitor and brought out about 4 cases full of heads and shafts. Hit balls for an hour and a half.

Based on one of the other responses I got, I looked up an advanced fitter and got Pine Oaks off the list,as soon as I get a chance I'll be heading up to Pine Oaks to talk with them. Again thanks for giving me the names of who to contact there

Hi Dustin,  Our rep would be glad to take a look at your swing, but both our rep and Pine Oaks would only be able to help you with the 910 driver shaft.  The 910 and 913 driver shafts are interchangeable, but the fairways and hybrids are not.  They would be able to fit you into 913 fairway and hybrid shafts using the 913 heads.

I'm not really in the market for new clubs, my goal is to find a way to find an adequate shaft to replace the ones I have while keeping costs down. So another question, according to the UST/Mamiya Swingfit online tool it recommends two different possible shafts that should fit my needs for fairway woods, so if we were to hit the 913 with those particular shafts would not the numbers be similar to the results I would achieve with the 910? I realize that there is a improvement in the 913 heads vs the 910's but we're not talking apples and oranges here and everybody says that "the shaft is the engine of the club".

Are the shafts you are looking at in the current Titleist matrix?  Actually that doesn't make much difference.  If it is available and you like the shaft, you'll need to custom fit it for the 910.

You will need to have a local shop exchange the adapter from the Titleist or buy and install an aftermarket adaptor for the UST to get the shaft on your 910.

OK, Final question from me considering my last post  with a question on the 11th did not garner a response from the Titleist people.

Through some sort of magic I am able to determine that I would like to change out my 3 wood shaft with a , UST AXIVCore Tour Black, Stiff, 68G, right out the custom book, shaft with 910 adapters without grip. Can I order these through a approved dealer and how much would one cost.

Hi Dustin,  You can order that shaft with a 910 adaptor through any authorized pro shop.  We don't have MSRP's for shafts or shaft upgrades, so you will have to check with your shop for pricing.
