I've been playing a 910 D2 with an Aldila RIP 60 stiff shaft for a few years. I have it set to the A-1 position. Recently I've been experimenting with a launch monitor. My averages are: 98 mph swing speed and a 1.4 smash factor, 2200 rpm spin. The problem is my total distance is only 230. I have a 910 15 degree 3 wood with a stiff Ahina shaft that I hit 230 off a tee. I'm looking for shaft suggestions that would better fit my stats? Thanks, Jim.

    Hi Jim,

    Thanks for the post.

In looking at your launch conditions, I would have to say the focus should be solid contact. A smash of 1.4 means you are losing a lot of ball speed. Ideally, smash factor with the driver should be around 1.5, meaning if you club speed is 100, your ball speed will be 150.  It is likely no coincidence that your 3w is almost as long as your driver, this could likely be due to the length of the 3w Vs. the driver. I would tinker with a shorter driver shaft to ensure better contact. The more solid contact will increase speed and overall distance.

Please note, this is just a suggestion. It is always best to try and see a local Titleist fitter so you can experiment with the different lengths and options.

Did you happen to catch the launch angle and carry?

I have that stock shaft in a 910D3 set to A1 with about a 93 mph swing and also around 2000 rpm (+/- 200) but I get a 230 carry with 10 to 20 yards of roll. My launch angel is about 16-18 degrees. It used to be about 10-12 degrees which resulted in only 200 yards of carry and 25 yards of roll. I'm wondering if you are just not giving your ball enough hang time. Try increasing your attack angle and see if that helps any.

    Good luck,

    Michael
