Well, my son has had a large growth spurt this summer.  I know Cathi still sends Team Titleist members to me for kids club fitting and I am glad to help.  I've made several full sets of clubs for my son starting at about age 8.

This summer after Junior Worlds I lengthened his clubs about 2.5" to get them to fit him after a 3+ inch growth spurt.   I'd been afraid to change them before junior worlds because I thought it would be too hard to get used to the new clubs.  That was foolish as I'd forgotten how quick kids are to adapt.  In fact, his first round with the new clubs was routinely under par.  I'd have been fine with 76 but he seemed not to miss a beat.  So now I'm changing shafts again without regard to his tournament next week or Western Regional PGA Jr league finals in 2 weeks.

After a month with the lengthened shafts to get him used to swinging the longer clubs, we did some fitting today and chose some shafts.  I'm ordering some Aldila RIP phenom 60 and 70 stiff shafts for his driver and woods respectively.  IIRC the driver doesn't need tipping at all but the 3 wood and 5 wood should be tipped.

Can someone tell me the standard tipping amounts for the fairway woods.

    thanks,

    Jerry

HI Jerry,  Tell Tommy good luck!  Tip the 3 wood 1" and tip the 5 wood 1.5".

Thanks Cathi!  That's what I thought I remembered but couldn't find it anywhere.  New shafts will be in later this week.

Tommy shot 71 from the blacks yesterday.  He said he wasn't hitting the new iron shafts well yet but had 22 putts.  Oh to be young again.  --Jerry

PS  I'm spoiling that kid.  He finished playing a practice round at Vineyard saturday at 630.  I picked him up and had his Irons reshafted and ready to play at 630 Sunday morning.  Tourvan service at home.  LOL.

    Hey Cathi,

Need a bit more help please.  Tommy is killing the new shafts in his woods and that has created a gap with his irons so we have to add a hybrid.  How much should a hybrid shaft be tipped  (for a 21 and a 24 deg hybrid) or do they just get cut for length on the butt.

RIP Phenom will be here thurs.

    Thanks,

    Jerry

Hi Jerry,  Glad to hear Tommy is hitting those shafts great!  We would tip the 21 1" and the 24 1.5" and then butt cut to length.

Cathi, You're the best. thanks, Jerry
  8. How much tip trimming on a 19 degree hybrid for a rip phenom? And also for a 910 driver and 910 3-wood also with rip phenom's?
