Hi guys, after 73 years Father Time has caught up with me. I want to replace my current shafts which have cpm's in the high 280s. A fitter from HG recommended a shaft with 230 cpm for the 6 iron and all other irons based on that. Your suggestions would be most helpful as I look for new shafts.

  2. Elvis, since cpm frequency varies from fitter to fitter, could you tell us what your current shaft is along with the flex? I could easily go from there...I created a chart that used the same conditions among a variety of shafts that should be able to offer some suggestions. There is also a great chart inside the custom options book detailing the launch and spin of many iron shafts available by Titleist.

Elvis, I am 69 and this past January went from a stiff steel shaft in my irons to a senior graphite flex. I also went from a R graphite shaft in my driver and hybrids to a senior or more flexible shaft. I have gained about a half club in distance over all with the same amount of ball dispersion. I went to a certified professional fitter (not one of the big box stores) and he generated data on a doplar type ball tracker. My average swing speed was only 83 mph with the driver. I was shocked as my driving distance of around 225 yards by the paper charts published by different vendors recommended a regular shaft. Go to professional fitter if possible in your area as the data generated does not lie.

I would like to tell you I'm 74 I have tryed both Graf. And steel (ap1s) at this age and I'm sure you should as I'm sure others will say a cert. fitter is you best bet but in my case I ended up with Nippon 850 r flex and I have in past tryed Graf. Both r and senior flex hate that word anyhow we can all guess but the fitters will give you the best result I think good luck sir
