Iron Swing Weights

  1. I've read that all things being equal when longer than standard shafts are put in irons swing weights go up. If irons are custom ordered from Titleist (for example AP1 or AP3) is there a different version of the heads that counteracts this to get the swing weights back to what they would be with a standard length shaft? And if so, what is the difference in the club heads?

Titleist will adjust head weights to either get to D2-D3 swing weight or whatever swing weight is requested. If a desired swing weight is not possible with the equipment ordered, they will work with you on what can be done. There won't be a noticeable difference based on the head weight. Lie and shaft length will be the greater variables.

An extra 1/2 inch will increase the swing weight 3 points (+/- 1) and a 2 gram head weight reduction equals a deduction of 1 swing weight point. I understand Titleist do have lighter weight heads but I don't how much in grams. As Don states they will advise if they can't meet your requested swing weight.
