Here it is, the last 2 weeks I have played like crap. Don't know why , no more pressure than normal. Nothing seems right, my stance my swing nothing. The worst part is it comes off a couple stellar weeks of golf maybe even my best so far.The only thing that hasn't failed me is my putting. Any thoughts or Ideas? Thanks in advance.

The simple answer might be to just take a few days off and forget about it.  Go back to the course with a fresh mind and maybe even play a round or two and don't keep score.  Just play for the enjoyment and see if things come back around.  The bigger issue could be a swing flaw has developed.  If that's the case, you'll need to visit your pro for a little tune up.

Try just getting back to having fun.  No pressure golf.  Move up a set of tees or maybe back a set.  If you have a Top Golf near you, that is always a great way to just have fun.  I know that when I start having slumps, it is because I am trying to be too perfect or not having fun.  They normally come after I have been playing really well.  I have this expectation to continue that, and it does not always work out.

I doubt that you've grooved a bad swing habit after a couple of weeks of your best golf. For me, scoring well depends on my focus. If you have good course management you can typically score well regardless of how you're swinging. I find it very satisfying when you score well knowing that your not swinging well. I play a lot of rounds per year and find this time of year very difficult to play well. Temperature changes, course condition changes, typically fewer events to prepare for, etc. all impact your focus. If you play the same course most of the time, try to play a different course. Also, there are ways to improve your game without actually playing. The fact that it is typically dark when I go to work and get home from work, I use this time of year to really focus on my fitness. Most of all, keep it fun.

    Dave,

I've experienced a week of two like this before. It feels like nothing is comfortable or in sync. Right? What worked for me was doing nothing. It sounds weird but the only thought process I went through pre-shot was simply telling myself to just relax and take a good swing. No technique talk or shot shaping, just pure and simple grip it n' rip. Worked for Tin Cup right? Why not you...

I was going through something similar at the beginning of October. I took a month off just practicing my swinging motion without a club. I went to the range yesterday and couldn't miss. I also hit a 4 iron well for the first time in my life. Different things work for different people, but I suggest taking a week or two off and seeing what happens.

Thanks to all who replied. I think a week off might help, if not then a second will hopefully do it. Looks by the replies this isn't out of the norm.

Golf is a game of highs and lows. I think you just need one good round to break the slump then the floodgates will open.

Dave, I've read and researched tour pros and their wins.  Many have come off of horrible past weeks or rounds.  In my experience, golf scores and great rounds/horrible rounds, come and go without warning or really any input on our part.  I play over 400 rounds a year.  The worst thing you can do is get self-conscious and try and figure it out analytically.  Just go with the flow.  DO NOT STOP.  Keep playing as much as you can.  I've learned the most when I was the most tired and dejected and just couldn't get anything going in my direction.  Then, because I did not quit, and kept playing when everything indicated the opposite, the bad shots turned into great shots.  It is a journey, Dave.  Keep enjoying it...Good luck!  Vern Urich

If I have played a few weeks of my best golf and then I "loose it" for some reason I always take a day off.  I will hit the range and just work on fundamentals and tempo/timing.  Basically hit a lot of 9 irons, 7 irons with full swings but only try to hit them 3/4 of my normal distance.  Seems to work out well for me.

So here's the update. I have in inversion table and just for the heck of it I got on it. Something popped in my right hip and Blammo it all came back. I did get away from the clubs for a week before I got on it. Should've done this first , but it didn't feel out of place. Ah the human body what a mystery. Thanks to all that replied. Hit um straight. Dave...

Good news Dave. I was going to suggest to take two weeks off and then quit. Just kidding. I played my first golf last week after not playing for almost 5 months due to shoulder surgery. Shot 5 over for a 9 hole round. That is lower than my normal handicap and I was quite pleased. My problem now is old man winter is keeping me from playing this great game we all enjoy.

I am no expert but what I do is go back to basics.  Check your alignment, etc.  Try to relax.  I play better when I relax my body.
