What’s everybody’s thoughts on using Golf GPS on your Apple Watch?

Is anybody using it and is it worth it? Looking at picking up an Apple Watch and figured I’d get both benefits of GPS and the daily use of an Apple Watch (ie text messages etc)

I don't have an apple watch (yet) but I know some guys that use the GPS function for golf. They like it. I guess it frees up some room in the bag from the laser or handheld gps

Not sure which watch my friend uses, but he links it to his phone's GPS before the round and then just looks at the watch throughout the round. All in all it seems to work well.
I use a Garmin product along with my laser. The Garmin G6 is a great tool as I also use it to keep score and track my stats. But whatever you use as a GPS device is still not a complete replacement for a goo Laser Range Finder. I use mine in addition to my garmin to shoot the distance to a specific tree when playing a dog leg, or when I am trying to ensure my lay-up will not reach through the fairway and get me in more trouble...

Hey! I have been using an app on my apple watch this year. Quite frankly it does the job. There is one little downside i find. It drains your watch battery! So i’ve done a few early 18s and my watch would be out of battery for the rest of the day.
I’m considering a range finder now. But the apple watch does the job!

Thanks for the replies. Decided on sticking with my Garmin Approach S20. It’s been solid for me on distances. However a laser rangefinder will be on my Christmas list for this year.
  6. Ive used SwingU and upgraded to the pro version and I have to say it does work well. It shows actual vs what it is with slope + weather factors which can help with club selection. It has a club tracking feature but you have to constantly remember to track and stop which is annoying. Older versions did drain the watch battery but on my series 5 its worked really well and I can get a round in as well as a full day of use from the watch.

I have a Garmin Fenix and use the Golf App all the time. Super accurate and I would expect that the S62 to be even more user friendly.
  8. I picked up the S62 Garmin this year. No regrets. Big upgrade over any of my previous Garmins. The battery life alone is worth the upgrade. I can play 5 rounds without recharging. For players who know how far they hit their clubs it is a hugh advantage. For players who don't, it doesn't matter if they have a watch or rangefinder, they still can't hit the green.

Got the Garmin s60 watch as a gift before the golf season started upgrad from the s5 and wow what a watch so sweet tons of features and the s62 comes out and I couldn’t return it the 62 the only down fall is the battery on the S60 and the short band but Amazon solved that problem also love the thought of Apple Watch but to basic for my golf needs lol

I hate having the watch on my wrist during a round. I lost my laser this year so I think I'm going to go with the Garmin Z80 or Z82. They are a hybrid laser that has the GPS function built in.

I used to think this way as well. What I did not realise was how ridiculously light the Garmin watches are. I don't even notice it actually and it is so much more convenient then reaching for the Laser (and I have a Z80 as well). Not sure if this is an option for you but give a watch a try for a round - you might surprise yourself.

That’s a great idea Jason. I’ll have to look into it aswell. After much research the Apple Watch just won’t cut it.

I like the idea of the hybrid so that I can use either or. Will keep you posted and now have to look for a good deal on it.

I like the idea of the laser / gps combination. I would personally find it hard to pass up on my Garmin G6 because of the bonus of being able to keep scores on it for not just me but also the balance of the foursome. In addition - it tracks my GIR, Fairways Hit, Putts per hole. These stats give me a good idea on what needs to be worked on... Pretty well everything :)
  14. I played with just a normal watch on my arm for a few rounds before I bought my first Garmin. I wanted to see if it would effect my game before I made the decision to purchase.

Good old fashion Garmin G2. Front, back. and middle. With Bushnell tour V4 (Jolt, eyes don't like close up lol).
Helps me stay focused and confident in making sure my ego doesn't lead me astray.

Oh and when my swing deserted me for a stretch the Garmin is great from being on the wrong hole's fairway!!

    Cheers Team!

Well after much research and lots of great input from everyone. I pulled the trigger on the S62. Absolutely hands down the best all around watch so far.

It does everything you can imagine and I haven’t tried the golf part of it yet. Can’t wait to get it on the course and see what it can do.
