During my Titleist fitting at Osprey Valley it was decided that what I needed was a new 48 degree Vokey SM8 wedge to close up my distance gap between my Pitching Wedge and my SM6 54 degree. I placed the order as soon as I got my detailed specs on lie, bounce, and length... It arrived on Friday and I got to put it into play today. Always mixed emotions when I get a new club. I look forward to hitting it but at the same time hate the idea of marring the pristine face ! The SM8's are certainly a great looking club...

Congrats, Darius. I am looking forward to getting an SM8 52.08M to close my distance gap.

There is nothing like hitting a new wedge :)

They are offering either American Flag or European Stars (Ryder Cup) with I believe, a free laser etching on the SM8's, see link below. Maybe this can be done still if you wanted it Darius....

Sorry to have missed out on that option. Not a problem though... Just great to have it in the bag. I chipped in for a birdie the other day on only my second round with the new SM8 in the bag. It may not be a big deal to many, but I only chip in 2 or three times in a season of 80+ rounds so to me that is a huge thing that I did it so soon !
  6. For me, chipping in is a function of missed greens. If the greens are big and/or I am playing well I find I am hitting 10+ greens, so the opportunity to chip in is limited. However, I just spent a week in Nova Scotia on a 9 hole course where the greens are small and elevated so I was only hitting 5 or 6 a round. So the opportunities to chip in increased dramatically. My SM8 sixty degree around the green is one of my best weapons. While I only chipped in once, my kill ratio for getting up and down was over 80%. So the typical line at the end of the round was 6 greens hit, 28 putts, score 78.

What 9 hole may I ask did you play in NS? Ive almost played em all!
  8. White Point outside of Liverpool. Really fun track. I grew up on it. I keep telling my playing partners in Ontario that fog delays are non existent in NS. Otherwise, you would never get to play. We have had fog delays in Kitchener approaching 2 hours. Crazy.

A brief update on the new 48 degree SM8... Since I put it into play, it has now been directly responsible for 6 birdies. That is unbelievable !!!! I knew I needed something to fill the gap I had and I am beyond pleased that my fitting with Jim at Osprey Valley identified this as the fix I needed. This club has given me more confidence every time I pull it out of the bag :) I think I may see one of my SM 6's replaced next season !
