Has anyone ever have their shafts pured?

If so, was there an issue with your shafts before being pured?

If you did, it make a difference?

  2. Dear Jerry,

I have had shafts pured in the past. I went to an old school golf pro who had some simple jigs for identifying the spine of the shaft. I found that it helped especially with longer clubs (length + swing speed = higher propensity for rotational flex).

The kicker these days is that with adjustable driver shafts and improved shaft manufacturing it less of an issue. If you are 100% certain of the setting you will use on your driver then yes it makes sense. If you are more prone to adjustments then I wouldn't worry about it quite so much.

If you are getting a new set of irons it wouldn't hurt to get it done during assembly to give you peace of mind and added confidence.

    General observations -
    1. Titleist has not recommended to get this done in the past and it is not an option from them.
    2. Usually only recommended by custom club fitters that are relatively low volume builders.
    3. I've never had a club that was distinguishable in performance from any other at my skill level.
    4. My personal opinion - similar to auto dealers' extended warranties. An added cost but of negligible benefit.
Since Titleist builds custom orders for no up-charge and without purring, very few of us get Titleist sets build by a custom builder with a purring option.
  4. Agree with Don O... had a set of Pings fitted by Club Champion 3 years ago. Had all the iron shafts, and Driver Pured (Quite Expensive). Really no noticeable benefits for me ‍♂️ (12 Handicap). After recently being fitted by Titleist for AP3’s, I’m thinking the shaft itself is the key.

I ordered a set of Aerotech Steelfiber shafts for my split set of Ap2's and Ap'3s. They came pured, and to be honest, cannot tell the difference at my level.
